Det digitale produktpas kan også kaldes ”en digital tvilling” eller en digital journal, som følger det enkelte produkt i form af en chip eller en QR-kode. Det betyder, at stort set alle produkter, som bliver anvendt eller solgt på det europæiske marked, skal have et digitalt produktpas, som viser information om produktets bæredygtighed på forskellig vis.
