BUFFALO, NY — April 23, 2025 — A new #research paper was #published in Aging (Aging-US) Volume 17, Issue 3, on March 18, 2025, titled “Epigenetic and accelerated age in captive olive baboons (Papio anubis), and relationships with walking speed and fine motor performance.”

In this study, led by Sarah J. Neal from The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, researchers examined how the epigenetic age of baboons—a measure of biological aging based on DNA methylation—compared to their actual age (chronological age) and whether it related to signs of aging like slower walking or reduced hand coordination. While many baboons showed a mismatch between their epigenetic and chronological ages, these differences did not consistently align with physical performance measures.

Researchers analyzed blood samples from 140 captive olive baboons (Papio anubis) to determine whether these primates, like humans, show signs of “age acceleration”—a condition where epigenetic age surpasses chronological age. The results revealed that about a quarter of the baboons exhibited accelerated aging, while another quarter showed signs of slower aging, known as “age deceleration.” 

“We found that epigenetic age was strongly correlated with chronological age, and that approximately 27% of the sample showed age acceleration and 28% showed age deceleration."

The scientists then investigated whether these differences were reflected in physical indicators such as walking speed or fine motor skills. To do this, researchers measured walking speed by tracking how quickly baboons moved between points in their enclosures and assessed fine motor skills using a simple task that involved picking up small objects.

Older baboons did tend to walk more slowly and perform worse on tasks requiring dexterity, patterns also seen in aging humans. However, these changes were more closely related to chronological age than epigenetic age. Two different methods were used to measure the gap between epigenetic and chronological age. Each method produced slightly different outcomes, highlighting the complexity of defining age acceleration. In one analysis, the oldest baboons appeared to age more slowly epigenetically, possibly reflecting selective survival, where only the healthiest individuals live into old age.

This research is among the first to classify baboons based on their epigenetic aging rate and investigate how this links to real-world signs of aging. Although the findings did not provide clear evidence that epigenetic age acceleration leads to physical decline, they point to the importance of DNA methylation as a biomarker in aging research. Because baboons share many biological similarities with humans, these findings help refine how researchers measure aging and assess potential early warning signs of decline. Continued studies in baboons and other primates may improve our understanding of how epigenetic aging influences health and longevity—and could help develop better tools for predicting age-related decline in humans.

Max RubaDub, better known as „The Remix Junkie“ releases his personal milestone. After years of remixing for labels and artists from all over the world, he finally found time to sit down and work on his producer-album. Featuring voices like Luciano, Gappy Ranks, Voicemail or Lutan Fyah this LP brings along a high musical diversity. On 16 tracks he mixes all the different colors which Jamaican Bass music has to offer. Whether it is rub-a-dub, hiphop, steppers, dancehall or one-drop, Max dedicates his debut-album to the love of music.

Max RubaDub is truly unique. Like no one else, he mixes danceable beats with fresh vocals - whether it is mash up, dancehall, reggae or hip-hop - focussing on groovy music that keep your dancing feet moving; always surrounded by the Jamaican vibe. He plays what he likes and whatever makes the party going crazy; also new genres such as afrobeats or even shatta.

Having gained a lot of experience, Max knows exactly how to crank up the party and how to excite the party crowd anywhere. But this DJ is also an entertainer: with his hot sets, he is a welcome guest in the clubs and one of the most booked selectors in Switzerland.

He started his career as a member of the well-known Riot Soundsystem, with which he travelled all-over Switzerland and its neighbouring countries. But also as a solo DJ he managed to gain publicity by creating internationally acclaimed remixes for names as Chali 2na or Cypress Hill and by releasing mixtape series.

Meanwhile, the name Max RubaDub stands for quality. A further project is the SoundMax-Studio, in which he is experimenting and working on his latest remixes, is recording different artists or is refining his newest productions. He released his own music on several international labels such as Irish Moss Records (IR), Cast-a-Blast (GR), Gideon Production (CH), Superfly (PL) Ranking Reggae (CH) or on his own RubaDub Blends (CH).

The future seems to be bright: there are already new productions and mixes raring to be released and as usual Max RubaDub is willing to demonstrate his DJ-skills in the clubs. Watch out!

Oi Oi I’m Ryan. Here’s a little bio. 

I bought my first set of turntables at the age of 14 when I was already collecting Happy Hardcore records. DJing was one of those things that just come naturally to me. My friends were always over at my house for mixing sessions. At 16 I started playing alongside my brother and friends every fortnight at a local bar for an under 18’s night playing Happy Hardcore. Two years later, out of a thousand entrants my mix tape came top five in the ‘Ministry Of Sound DJ Of The Year’. I played a live vinyl set in Topshop situated in London’s Oxford Street, on a busy Saturday afternoon. I continued entering DJ competitions and talent nights along with a mid-week slot at a local bar. At 20, I was given full weekend residency at my local nightclub Steam, playing Old-Skool, House and Trance. In the next two years I reached the final of the ‘Young DJ Of The Year’ competitions, which were run by the Staffordshire & Cheshire’s number one radio station, Signal 1. I came out as overall winner of the competition in 2002. My prize was my first ever pair of Technics 1210’s (which I still use), mixer, flight cases and the opportunity to play a live set at Café Mambo in Ibiza. The win also landed me a set at the opening night of the Stoke club, Lomax, for the ‘Youth Upfront Awards’. I then tried to further my career by signing onto the internet DJ agencies, 'Topjox' and 'Club Dreams', sending out demos to gain recognition. In the early summer of 2004 I decide to try my luck by booking a one way ticket to Ibiza for the season. It was tough at first, but by the end of July I had a residency at the brilliant Plastik Lounge in San Antonio. After a few weeks playing with some of San An’s finest house DJ’s, I was given the chance to warm up the decks in Es Paradis funky lounge. But best of all, after weeks of trying, Alex Ellenger, who with Judge Jules ran the funky room in Eden, give me the finest two hours of my DJ career by asking me to play a set. The next year I returned to Ibiza and became one of the residents in the swanky new Hush bar in San Antonio's west end. When I came back to England I started my own night in a local bar. I then became one of the Tech-House/Hard House residents for my brother's local club night ‘Euphonic Fuzion’. 

Even though I enjoy playing many styles of dance music, I've never lost my passion for Happy Hardcore. It will forever be the biggest part of me musically and that's why I created this page. To share the love for this incredible music.
