New year and a new DSSmix this time we invite our in-house friend, Baffa. 

 A Venezuelan DJ/Producer based in Barcelona, Spain, with an extensive musical career encompassing DJing, sound designing, and audio post-production. 

He was part of the Venezuelan trip-hop band Sur Carabela in the late ’90s and early ’00s. Later, he became a member of the band Chucknorris, and currently, he collaborates with Moreon, releasing music on labels like Visionquest, No.19, Berg Audio, Budare.

Recently Baffa launched his last solo colab on Pa Volar Records.

1. How and where was the mix recorded?

The mix was recorded at my home, using two Technics Sl1210´s and my trusty Pioneer DJM1000 mixer

2. Can you tell us about the idea behind the mix?

Well, i probably just recorded what i would do live at a venue. The difference is that there was no one around, so i was just playing for myself and following my own vibe. Lately my mixes are much about trying to strike a balance between storytelling and groove, between fun and deep emotions, basically trying to transmit an underlying message while people dance, so thats the same idea behind this mix.

3. What are you up to next? Projects, ideas…

Well its has been an unexpectedly busy year for me, so im still trying to process many things. I was lucky to receive support from many colleagues, and was able to release a lot of music i´ve made myself and in collaboration with others in 2023.  That's mostly the result of actually not planning anything and just doing what truly felt right and fair at the moment, so i plan to continue doing that for this new year.

4. Lastly, for you what is Dance, Shake, Swing!?

Well apart from your brand, those three words together sound like spontaneity and honest fun while the “!” bring the stakes up :D.  i think it goes well with what you guys are doing so keep it up!.

DSSmix #07 - Baffa

It’s time to introduce the new DSSmix from one of the most sought-after emerging selectors in the industry in 2023, also recognized as one of the DJs to watch in 2024: Monile! 

Originally from Morocco and based in Barcelona, Spain, Monile joined us for our season finale alongside Satoshi Tomiie, delivering an incredible performance. Now, she delights us with this special mix for DSS. We’re grateful to have her on our series!

1. How and where was the mix recorded?

It was recorded in my house in Barcelona. 
I used a Vestax PCV-275 mixer and 2cd players and one turntable 

2. Can you tell us about the idea behind the mix?

The main word is Eclecticism. I find it interesting mixing up different genres, making a story/journey of them. The important thing for me while choosing a record is that it induces some kind of emotion.
Regarding the construction of the mix (my mixes in general) I like to start smoothly, building up the rhythm and increasing the intensity progressively throughout the mix, ending with a dreamy part and some special closing track.

3. What are you up to next? Projects, ideas…

Few releases coming up (couple EPs, a pop rock remix, collaborations, VAs) and the lunch of my parties soon…
Really excited about that! 

4. Lastly, for you what is Dance, Shake, Swing!?

Reminds me of a track I really like : « Billy Nightmare - Dance, shake, swing » i put it in as a closing of the mix)
Also, simply makes me want to dance, shake and swing!!
I have to say the lineup curation has been full of quality groovers so far.

DSSmix #08 - Monile

[PREMIERE] DSS! - Ildec | Dance, Shake, Swing! [2024]

For this 13th edition, we are honored to invite our friend Deca, a Venezuelan DJ and founder of the Senses project. Deca is part of the new generation of Venezuelan DJs who has stood out for his ability to dig deep and find a unique sound full of personality. We are excited to feature him in our mix series.

1. How and where was the mix recorded?
In my living room, with a pair of Technics MK7's and a Xone 23 mixer.

2. Can you tell us about the idea behind the mix?
I wanted to bring together something groovy but with a dark & electrifying twist. The first half of the set explores the darker side of breaks, trance, house and techno whereas the second part is purely progressive house from the early 2000's, characterized by intricate drum patterns and wicked synthesizers. 

I know DSS is all about rhythms and groove, so I wanted to stick to the musical values of the collective. The genres that prevail in the mix are: Prog House, Breaks, Techno and House


3. What are you up to next? Projects, ideas…
Right now I'm focusing on the brand I created a year ago called Senses. It is a cycle of events that bring together art, music and networking. Our short-term goal is to host events on a monthly basis and we are working hard to make that happen.



4. Lastly, for you what is Dance, Shake, Swing!?
For me DSS is a movement that is bringing back the classical Tech-House from the late 90's and early 00's. I also think DSS is doing a great job by joining forces with other collectives in BCN and I personally think that the key for growing in this ever-challenging environment as the music industry business.

New mix from our close friend Pau Melgar! The Valencian talent behind T.S.O. and head of Peim Records & Reverse is back, raising the bar once again. Enjoy!

1. How and where was the mix recorded?

It took me several days to complete: one to prepare it and another to record it. The recording was done in my studio at Lunatic, Barcelona, and it was recorded using an Allen & Heath Xone 96, two Technics SL-1210 MK5 turntables, and two Pioneer XDJ-700 players.

2. Can you tell us about the idea behind the mix?

The idea behind this podcast is to show a less serious side of myself than what I'm usually known for, always keeping my musical identity clear and telling a story — one that progresses and is focused on the dancefloor. included tracks by artists who have been very influential to me, as well as from friends and even a piece produced by myself.

3. What are you up to next? Projects, ideas…

My main project at the moment is T.S.O. (The Sugar Orchestra), which I share with my friend Javier Sukoshi. Together, we run Peim Records and Reverse Records

4. Lastly, for you what is Dance, Shake, Swing!?

For me, Dance, Shake, Swing is about community, quality events, and a project led by close friends.
