When using affirmations, you want to choose ones that target a specific behavior, belief, or area in your life that needs improvement. Positive affirmations engage the parts of the brain that process positive valuations and act as visual aids. Ideally, you should start by writing down a negative thought each day. Try to catch any patterns that repeat. While using affirmations, avoid being overly optimistic; use neutral counterarguments. As you become more accustomed to the method, you can gradually build up your positive thinking.
