The idea behind the song is the irony of the saying “we can still be Friends’ after retiring a long-term relationship. It also represents empowerment, taking back control, regaining confidence and overcoming the hurdle of shame/blame. Its ok to say it was their fault, you don’t have to be the nice-guy about it. You don’t have to be silent because they told you to be…

The idea came across really quickly - within 2 weeks I had fully written the instrumental but it was missing the core feature of a pop song - vocals.
At the time I was hiding from the scene, embarrassed to reach out to new artists so the song kind of went stagnant - sat in the backlog. It wasn’t until i got a random call from Amela, my long time friend who i had released music with prior. I sent her the demo with the title ‘friends’ and no kidding within 15 minutes she bounced back the top line ‘Can we just be Friends’ and it just stuck. I immediately booked flights to go see her and we wrote and recorded the whole track within 1 night. (Still remember slumping it on the floor of the studio). From there i trialled it at a few festivals/ clubs with pretty good reception - but it needed to be polished off. I got in contact with Prod by Quinn to help mix and master it. The track has been sitting in my ID’s for nearly 12 months now so its about time you heard it.

So, I’d been following Daniel Allan for a while.

He was going to play a new track called Better With You at EDC Las Vegas.

It wasn’t out yet, but I really liked the digital sound. I made a remix hoping it wouldn’t get played.

He didn’t really notice me, just replied “Port London” a couple of times. I’m happy about that.

After playing the remix at a few events, like Mountain Waves Festival, I decided to release it officially.

My brother @Epcohh did the mix and master, I’m really happy with how it turned out.

The Chainsmokers has been a huge influence for me since I first began listening to electronic music in the early 2010s, so in excitement I felt the rush to make a remix that makes me feel like I went back in time to my early teenage years, blasting music as I skate into the sunset!
