Abstract: MIT CISR research has found that interorganizational data sharing is a top concern of companies; leaders often find data sharing costly, slow, and risky. Interorganizational data sharing, however, is requisite for new value creation in the digital economy. Digital opportunities require data sharing 2.0: cross-company sharing of complementary data assets and capabilities, which fills data gaps and allows companies, often collaboratively, to develop innovative solutions. This briefing introduces three sets of practices—curated content, designated channels, and repeatable controls—that help companies accelerate data sharing 2.0.

Jean Matthieu Thévenot, young vegetable farmer and member of the Coordinating Committee of the European Connection Via Campesina (ECVC), calls for fair wages, access to land, and training to attract young farmers and ensure food sovereignty.
Dr. John Helming, project coordinator of the EU-funded project MINDSTEP, emphasises how R&I can support evidence-based policymaking for a competitive and sustainable agriculture. 
Elli Tsiforou, Secretary-General at COPA-COGECA, emphasizes digitalization's role in balancing sustainability for farmers, urging investments and practical solutions for adoption. 
Finally, Catherine Geslain-Lannelle, Director of Strategy & Policy analysis at DG AGRI, highlights dialogue and cooperation as cornerstones of future policy development.

In this 51st edition of Food for Europe, we are exploring the role that data, and the broader availability of data, can play in making Europe’s agriculture more efficient – and in particular, what it means for farmers and policymakers.

Farming has always been an innovative sector – but it’s only in the past decade or so that the enormous potential of digital technology in agriculture has become clear.
This episode is all about data sharing and how it works: the upsides, the policy framework and the challenges.

Our field report comes from Flanders in Belgium, where we meet Jurgen Vangeyte from the Flanders Institute for Agriculture, Fisheries & Food Research (ILVO) to discuss ILVO’s development of an innovative data-sharing platform, DjustConnect; and we meet Carine Cornu, a farmer in the region whose use of the platform has substantially reduced the time she spends on paperwork.

This ruling shows how the law and innovation sometimes struggle to keep pace with each other. Competition policies are scrambling to catch up with AI’s lightning-fast growth. This raises a big question: How do we keep innovation alive and kicking while preventing any single player from dominating the market? 🤔⚡

Here’s a bonus nugget for startups and innovators tuning in: Data sharing, when done right, can be a superpower! 💪 It opens doors for new players to compete and innovate against the giants. Keep a close watch on these data-sharing mandates—they might just be the equalizer you need to level the playing field. ⚖️🚀

Google will still pay device makers to preload its search engine and AI products, but exclusivity deals? Those are off the table now. This hits their strategy but isn’t a knockout punch. Google has raised concerns about privacy and service impacts but sees the ruling as a mixed bag—avoiding the chaos of breaking up Chrome or Android is definitely a win for them. 📱🔒

Zooming out, this ruling is a wake-up call for regulators worldwide. AI isn’t some far-off future anymore—it’s here, reshaping markets and antitrust laws in ways that policymakers are still figuring out. 🌍⚙️
