In 2006, Francis joined the New Jersey-based rock band Outside the Box which achieved local and regional notoriety by performing with or opening for many national acts. Outside the Box was named the house band at The Stone Pony club in Asbury Park, NJ from 2010 to 2013. Outside The Box released one full-length album entitled "Bridge” which was produced by Jeff Kazee.

Valentino joined Southside Johnny & The Poor Fools in late 2012. A side project of Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes, The Poor Fools released one full-length Americana album entitled “Songs From The Barn” which was produced by Jeff Kazee.

In 2013, Valentino joined Reno, NV-based American Country band Hellbound Glory which toured as the opening act for Kid Rock's Rebel Soul Tour. The tour featured Kid Rock, Buckcherry and Hellbound Glory. Subsequent touring with Hellbound Glory included dates with ZZ Top, 10 Years (band), Hinder and The Supersuckers. Francis still records with Hellbound Glory.

Since February 2015, Valentino has been touring with Bloomington, IL-based guitarist/ songwriter Matthew Curry. Tours have included dates with The Doobie Brothers, Steve Miller Band and Peter Frampton. Francis co-produced Matthew Curry's 2019 album "Open Road".

As of February 2020, Valentino has been a member of David Lee Roth's touring and recording band. Tours have included KISS' End of the Road World Tour. Francis can be heard on the "Roth Lives" live studio recordings (recorded live at Henson Studios in 2022).

When Van Halen exploded onto the music scene, they were a breath of fresh air. Their sound was grounded in hard rock, a style familiar to audiences, but Eddie Van Halen’s innovative playing, unique song structures, and electrifying energy placed them far beyond any competition.

However, Van Halen’s signature sound wasn’t just due to Eddie’s guitar work—David Lee Roth played an equally pivotal role. As one of the most dynamic frontmen of his time, Roth’s voice and stage presence perfectly matched the band’s high-energy style, captivating everyone who saw them perform. Gene Simmons once remarked on Van Halen’s impact, saying, “When Eddie came along, nobody played like that... I’m not even talking about the quality of the songs or Dave completely taking the frontman role to the nth degree. At that time, Dave was the king. If Jagger stood next to him, it would be like a sixth grader standing next to a pro.”

Despite their success, tensions within the band led Roth to eventually part ways with Van Halen. Many fans feared that losing such a legendary frontman would spell the end of the band, but instead, it marked the beginning of a new era.

When Sammy Hagar stepped in as the new lead vocalist, Van Halen reached even greater heights, consistently releasing chart-topping albums. Hagar’s smooth transition into the band brought a shared creative vision and a fresh energy, as Eddie Van Halen reflected, “From the first second, Sammy could do anything I threw at him. It just opened up a whole new door. Finally, we felt like four people with a common vision. Everything felt complete.”

Determined not to be seen as a mere replacement for Roth, Hagar insisted on contributing to the band's evolution. He was committed to creating something original, bringing his own style and songwriting to the group. His refusal to sing Roth’s songs emphasized his desire to bring something new to Van Halen’s sound. “What I brought to Van Halen was just who I was,” Hagar said, “It was Sammy Hagar at that moment, deeply inspired by Eddie Van Halen’s musicianship. He inspired me to write ‘goosebump’ songs.”

With Hagar on board, Van Halen continued to evolve, blending their raw energy with a more polished, experimental approach, ensuring that they remained at the top of their game.

By 1983, all-day rock festivals were nothing new in the U.S., with iconic events like California Jam, Texxas Jam, Day on the Green, Monterey Pop Festival, and Woodstock drawing massive crowds. However, a full-day festival dedicated entirely to heavy metal hadn't yet taken place on American soil.

Across the Atlantic, the UK had already hosted a few Monsters of Rock Festivals at Castle Donington, spotlighting headbanger favorites like Rainbow, Judas Priest, AC/DC, Scorpions, and Blue Öyster Cult. Taking inspiration from these, the organizers of the second US Festival, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak and promoter Bill Graham, made a brilliant decision: they dedicated Sunday, May 29th, 1983, exclusively to heavy metal fans.

The lineup was a metalhead's dream: Van Halen headlined, with Scorpions, Triumph, Judas Priest, and Ozzy Osbourne as support. The festival also gave a platform to then-up-and-comers Mötley Crüe and Quiet Riot. Interestingly, Joe Walsh was initially slated to perform that day but was moved to "Rock Day," headlined by David Bowie, on May 30th.

To get Van Halen to pause work on their upcoming album—the now-legendary 1984—the organizers had to offer a hefty paycheck. And hefty it was: Van Halen reportedly received $1.5 million for their two-hour set, an unheard-of sum at the time.

Not only that, but Van Halen went all out backstage. According to Pete Angelus, a key collaborator on the band's music videos and stage lighting, David Lee Roth decided to spend a significant portion of their payment creating a lavish backstage compound. "Dave thought it’d be a great idea to take a substantial chunk of that money and build a 'backstage compound' where he could hang out for five days before the event," Angelus shared in the 2011 book MTV Ruled the World: The Early Years of Music Video. "He had his friends out there, different trailers, and even dancers flown in from strip clubs."

Angelus also recalled filming a short, staged documentary a month before the festival to depict the wild happenings in the compound. Despite the fun, the extended partying seemed to catch up with Roth. "An hour before they were set to go on, I noticed that five days of partying had caught up with Dave. He was a little shaky, but he was just enjoying himself," Angelus laughed.

While Roth may not have been at 100%, Van Halen still delivered. Watching footage of their US Festival performance today, you can see Roth occasionally flub a line, but the band's energy and party vibe were unmatched. For two solid hours, they owned the stage, capturing the spirit of 1980s hard rock at its peak.
