This is the live recording from my ecstatic dance dj set on Maui. The intention was "shinrin yoku" - the Japanese practice of forest bathing. Infusing traditional Japanese elements with a gentle beginning that leads you into a waking dream state, the energy builds to a point of head-banging jungle realness, and traverses through sounds from all over the world. The music slowly brings you back to a state of stillness. Mahalo Nui Loa to the Maui Ecstatic Dance community for having me, it was an honor.

"ALERT!" is a high-energy cyberpunk track that combines elements of gritty darksynth and heavy metal. The song opens with a commanding play button sound, immediately grabbing the listener's attention. The deep bass and aggressive 190BPM rhythm create a sense of urgency, while the synthwave and metal influences add a futuristic edge. The base drop hits hard, punctuating the song's theme of impending danger. The use of mecha-inspired sound effects and scifi-inspired synths add a sense of mechanical chaos, perfectly capturing the feeling of being on high alert. It's time to let the light in, and start filling our own cups.  It's time to shift from victim-of-life consciousness, to the creator-of-life consciousness.  

There's a lot of struggle out there right now, particularly here in NZ, but it's always darkest just before dawn, and breakthroughs are right around the corner.  

I put a lot of love into this set, and thoroughly enjoyed the process.  The journey has a steady climb with some ups and some downs, alongside deep flowing grooves to whisk you along the way.  Loads of goa melody, driving baselines, and psychedelic goodness interwoven, ready for you to enjoy.

Meet Bevan, aka SHaManiK_BunnY, a multi-disciplined musician and no stranger to the stage from an early age. 

Having found true passion through emersing himself in psytrance from the early age of 12, he since grew up in Cape Town, South Africa's psy-haven with a thriving outdoor scene where he immersed himself in local festivals for over 8 years.

Bevan has a wealth of indoor and outdoor experience, further developed when he was inspired to travel the globe and attend some of the psy-calendar's most prestigious events, all of which he's managed to curate into a unique and energetic delivery of multi-dimensional vibrations.

Upon having moved to New Zealand and taking to the DJ decks, his genre of choice naturally gravitated towards an events pinnacle of heart-filled energetic vibes, Uplifting Full-On...but with a twist.

Like his DJ name suggests, Bevan's managed to carve his own unique melodic niche that separates out his sound, by creating an infused sweet-spot that blends a balance between his SHaManiK-side, and his BunnY-side.  

The shaman in him showcases a passion for the deep tribal, borderline primal melodies and bass that tickle the boundaries of dark-psy, whilst keeping things energetically elevated.  Couple that with the fluffy bunny side of some goa-inspired flowing melodies and ecstatic energetic peaks, he plays with two sub-genre's to cultivate something enthrallingly electric within 142-148 BPM, that you can't help but get lost in.
