An afternoon at Def Mix in New York 1989 songwriting with Frankie and Satoshi resulted in this piece, thanks also to Judy Weinstein.. I found it on a cassette and I re-recorded it in 2022 in a different key, adding guitar parts and harmonies.

I'm a singer and guitarist and produce music in my home studio. All tracks are my own compositions. Former member of 80s pop reggae group Amazulu. Some of the tracks posted were made with White Noise producer David Vorhaus. Mostly these days I do it all by myself at home, but do really enjoy collaborating and playing with others.  Anybody out there?

Kevin's musical roots started in the 1980s when he first started buying vinyl. His passion for disco, jazz funk and rare groove then led to him buying his first pair of turntables in the early 90s. With the explosion of the the New York and New Jersey Gospel house scene, he started to play out at intimate house parties and clubs in the West London scene. His main influences during this period included such luminaries as  Paul 'Trouble' Anderson,Tony Humphries, Frankie Knuckles, Kerri Chandler, David Camacho, Blaze, John Robinson, Lil Louis, Victor Simonelli and Masters at Work to name but a few.
In the studio, Kevin's collaboration with New York's Victor Simonelli "Hammond Heat" received plenty of support and club-play from the likes of Kenny "Dope" Gonzalez, DJ Spinna and Terry Hunter. The track has recently also had remixes from Legendary producer and remix king, John Morales.

His follow up to Hammond Heat, kept Kevin's profile very much on track within the soulful house scene on release in 2016, entitled "The Sax Track,"  it's deep jazzy groove featured in the Traxsource top 20 bestsellers. Since then Kevin's releases have included "Flute Fiyah," and "We've got to believe' (once more alongside Victor Simonelli)  "I just can't get enough of your love" and his remix of house music legend Byron Stingily's "Having You".  At the time of writing, future Kevin Fernando releases lined up including titles for Bassline Records & West Side Records as well as number of DJ only and vinyl release disco edits.
Away from the studio and back in the clubs... Kevin co-promotes the Soul Damn Funky club night in Brighton UK, playing soulful, deep and gospel house alongside high quality headline DJ's every month. Recent guests at the club have included the legendary Paul "Trouble" Anderson, Richard Earnshaw and Kevin's production partner, Victor Simonelli.

He also continues to DJ regularly across London, spinning house, disco, jazz-funk, soul, reggae, rare groove and everything in between. 
2017 saw Kevin fulfil a summer residency for disco legend John Morales at his "Boogie Nights" while other London gigs have included "Back 4 Love," "The Loft," "Troubled Soul" & "Bump n Hustle," playing many times alongside his mentor and favourite DJ Paul Trouble Anderson. 
International DJ duties have seen him visit Switzerland, France, Colombia, Thailand and Sri Lanka in recent years.
Kevin's 'Soul Damn Funky' crew released their first compilation album on Traxsource.com. The album "New York Classics Volume 1." features a bespoke collection of influential dance music from the early 90s. The sounds that drive Kevin's soulful DJ sets week in week out. The follow up was the release of "Soul Damn Funky presents Inhouse Volume 1." A fat compilation of deep, soulful and funky beats from the InHouse Records label produced by the Legendary Todd Terry.

Relocating from London to Sri Lanka in the autumn of 2017, Kevin continues to make moves with his productions... Works with Moné, Byron Stingily, Ronnie Canada and Victor Simonelli are all in the pipeline and his new base location in Asia allows him to bring his sound to a new audience, through events and the Soul Therapy artist agency.

DJ, radio show host, producer and in-demand resident DJ, CJ Cooper has been DJing across the UK and Ibiza for nearly 20 years. 

He’s best known for his long-standing nine-year residency at The Eagle in London, the legendary LGBT+ venue. And let’s face it, you know you’re doing something very very right when the other residents include Horse Meat Disco. 

Residencies have played a big part in CJ Cooper’s success to date. Alongside his regular slots at The Eagle, he’s also a resident DJ for the Brighter Days crew, playing at their sold-out parties for five years across Cambridge, Ibiza and London. 

Musically, CJ Cooper spans the best of disco, house and soulful house - from upfront edits and releases to crate-digging for long-lost classics. And they’re all present and correct on his weekly prime-time Wednesday night slot on D3EP Radio 

Away from his weekly and monthly gigs, CJ Cooper is increasingly in demand across the rest of the UK. 

He’s a firm favourite at the long-running Brixton Disco Festival having been booked for the last two years while he’s also recently played for We Out Here Festival and Cambridge Pride. 

Equally at home playing main-stage festival slots as well as intimate club gigs, other high-profile gigs including playing for Hed Kandi, the House and Classics Festival, plus several Ibiza gigs at Es Paradis, Ibiza Rocks Hotel and the Wiki Woo sunset bar. 

And memorably, it was while playing at Up on the Roof at the Prince of Wales in Brixton that The Shapeshifters called his warm-up ‘one of the best they’d ever heard.’ 

Not just a DJ and radio show host, CJ Cooper is a producer with a growing reputation having released four tracks on OPOM, Plastik People, Friday Fox Recordings and Electric Friends. 

With the world opening up once more and with disco at the forefront of the party, expect to hear a lot more from CJ Cooper in the near future.
