In dieser Podcast-Folge spricht Diabetes-Anker-Redakteurin Nicole Finkenauer mit Prof. Dr. Thomas Haak über Doppel-Diabetes – also das gemeinsame Auftreten von Typ-1- und Typ-2-Diabetes. Zu diesem Zusammentreffen der beiden Diabetes-Typen gibt es nur wenige Informationen – es wird aber zunehmend relevant undbetrifft immer mehr Menschen. 

Doppel-Diabetes entsteht in der Regel, wenn Menschen mit einem bestehenden Typ-1-Diabetes im Laufe der Jahre auch eine Insulin-Resistenz entwickeln, die typisch für den Typ-2-Diabetes ist. Dies kann zu einer immer schlechteren Stoffwechsel-Einstellung führen, was sich u.a. in einer schlechten Blutzucker-Regulierung und einer unerwünschten Gewichtszunahme äußert.

Prof. Haak, ist Chefarzt der Diabetes-Klinik am Diabetes Zentrum Mergentheim, langjähriger Chefredakteur des Diabetes-Ankers und ein ausgewiesener Experte auf dem Gebiet. Er erklärt, was genau unter Doppel-Diabetes zu verstehen ist, welche Ursachen und Symptome mit dieser Doppel-Belastung von Typ-1- und Typ-2-Diabetes einhergehen und wie die Therapie angepasst werden muss – z.B. durch die Gabe von Medikamenten oder sogar eine bariatrische Operation.

Prof. Haak geht zudem auf die Frage ein, ob der Typ-2-Diabetes im Fall eines Doppel-Diabetes in Remission gehen kann – also die typischen Symptome eines Typ-2-Diabetes dauerhaft in Schach gehalten werden können. Und er gibt wertvolle Tipps, wie Menschen mit Typ-1-Diabetes das Risiko eines Doppel-Diabetes minimieren können.
