Another proper classic from the vaults of Peppermint Jam. „Catch The Beat“ probably one of the most iconic and influential Hip Hop tracks next to Rappers Delight and The Message, having been sampled a trillion times. Good label mate Dimitri From Paris did a fantastic job updating Stetsasonics „Talkin´All The Jazz“  so he and Mousse T. thought „ Let´s do this again!“ and they did! An uptempo rework of the original using a full live band is now available with a brand new edit.

This edition of HOUSE MASSIVE was originally recorded mid-June, 2024. At the time it was just a vibe that happened to be on record-because I record everything I do, although I don't always post everything I do. 
There were things about this mix that really stood out, and new things were added to give it a little extra punch. It's typical of the "Classic Workout" mixes-I do them and go all in on the creative, but what you will always find in EVERY mix I post is the ability to listen to the mix over and over and not get tired of it immediately, because the things that make a mix listenable in the first place are incorporated into the way the songs play in my mixes.

Dr Packer BIO:

Dr Packer is an alias of West Australian DJ/Producer 'Greg Packer' set up for Remixes & Edits of mainly retro music such as 70's , 80's , 90's Soul , Disco , Funk , Hip Hop & Reggae , Greg although known more for 'Liquid Drum & Bass' regularly plays sets of 'Old School Funk , Disco , Hip Hop Etc' purchasing his first record in 1982 at the age of 10 'Grandmaster Flash - The Message' whilst still living in the UK (Northampton England) greg grew up listening to his mothers disco records (had no choice really) as a child in the 70's it wasn't uncommon to hear music such as 'Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now' or 'And The Beat Goes On' played in the house so the disco thing really was his first introduction to music , records became his life and has collected approx 25,000 over the years...

Shortly after whilst still living in the UK greg was exposed to a record label called 'Street Sounds' ran by 'Morgan Khan' he began collecting the 'Electro Series' and 'Street Sounds Series' and a regular follower of 'Mike Allen's - Capitol Radio' show in London , he was a full blown 'B-Boy' and Hip Hop Junkie , he even won a breakdancing competition in 'Lowestoft England' back in 1985

Moving on to the 90's shortly after emigrating to 'Perth Western Australia' greg purchased his first pair of decks in 1989 making this year his 28th year behind the decks , in 1991 he won the WA DMC's and defended the title in 1992 but by this time greg preferred Club Dj-ing and longer sets rather than a 5 minute scratch battle routine...

I'm heading back to Leeds next weekend for the next Downtown Disco event which I already know is going to be amazing and I am delighted to have Lisa Jane (Downtown Disco Resident) collaborate with me on my latest mix session. I saw Lisa play live at the last event and she was amazing !! I also love listening to her sets on soundcloud, her style, track selection and mixing are right up my street and I was over the moon when she agreed to do this set with me. TOY TONICS continues with re-releasing the best tracks of GOMMA RECORDS. The German label that between 2001 and 2015 was one of the key imprints of the then so hyped indie dance, new wave funk and proto disco sound (along with James Murphy’s DFA, Trevor Jackson’s Output records and later Ed Banger records). The Y2K sound...that now starts to become in demand again.

Now here comes a 3nd compilation part with music by Dimitri from Paris, who also did several EPs on Gomma in the 2000s.
Also, legendary Belgian disco DJs The Glimmers are featured (they had one album on Gomma in 2008) and UK legend Justin Robertson aka The Deadstock 33’s and one of the first ever releases by Daniel Avery (also on Gomma back then). You find remixes by Nicky Siano (Studio 54 DJs legend) and Horse Meat Disco, who back then just started their party series and already were connected to Gomma records. There is an amazing Flamenco Disco track by Spanish producers Hugo Capablanca and T. Keeler that has been hammered by everybody from Optimo to Ivan Smagghe back then, and Italian music diggers The Barking Dogs together with now fashion designer Marcelo Burlon are featured with an amazingly catchy electro Pop track. Of course also Munk who was the founder of Gomma records is on the compilation.

Gomma not only was a record label, but was also a home for cutting edge design, wild T-shirt styles, underground exhibitions with new artists from the Berlin scene and crazy poster and fanzine design. Before the label was closed in 2015, the Gomma visuals world has been exposed in exhibitions around the world, one of them at Museum Haus der Kunst Munich.

Bercé depuis sa plus tendre enfance par les hits de la Tamla Motown ainsi que par les classiques de la funk et du disco , Master Pi se dirigea naturellement a la fin des annees 80  vers la scene electronique . A travers un parcours de tefeur il sera amene a cotoyer divers artistes emergeant tel que Laurent Garnier , DJ Deep , Carl Cox. Fort de cette experience,il cree  a la fin des annees 90 le label Shokintrax en collaboration avec Sho.r. De cette association naitra 3 maxi distribue un peu partout dans le monde. Apres avoir teste a peu pres tous les styles electroniques ( de l'acide music au hardcore en passant par la trance psychedelique ) il revient donc vers ses premiers emois musicaux en mixant une house groovy energique souvent tournée vers les remixs astucieux des classiques de la funk.Il propose donc des performances dans l'unique but de faire partager ses gouts musicaux et de generer des fetes et des sentiments positifs.
