Groove Time Funk vous plonge dans l'âge d'or du "Disco funk", une période charnière entre la fin des années 70 et le début des années 80, où le déclin du disco commercial rencontre un retour aux racines soul, gospel. C’est aussi un moment clé pour l’émancipation de la cause afro-américaine, avec un impact profond sur la société et une influence directe sur l’émergence du hip-hop à la fin des années 80. L’émission se concentre sur cette époque où la musique était encore majoritairement jouée "à la mano", avant l’arrivée des boîtes à rythmes.
