Chapitre 24 : S'organiser contre les discriminations


Dans le pays, les principaux motifs de discriminations subies sont liés à l’origine, le handicap, la couleur de peau, la religion, le sexe, l’orientation ou l’identité sexuelle, l’apparence physique, l’âge, le lieu de résidence, etc. Elles peuvent se manifester par des violences verbales ou physiques, mais aussi par des complications ou interdictions d’accès à certains droits (logement, emploi, loisirs, etc.). Ces actes  –  bien que théoriquement punis par la loi – sont en constante augmentation et sont parfois même le fait des institutions de la République elles-mêmes ou de leurs représentant·es (contrôle au faciès, violences policières, attribution de logements, etc.).
Surtout, les discriminations sont le fait de réflexes sociétaux profondément ancrés dans notre mémoire collective et parfois inconscients, qu’il est nécessaire de déconstruire pas à pas.
Dans ce cadre, notre majorité municipale reconnaîtra le caractère systémique des violences et discriminations et luttera sans relâche contre leurs expressions individuelles afin de les combattre et de les éradiquer. Cela passe notamment par des services publics exemplaires avec des moyens dédiés, une formation continue des agent·es, une commande publique responsable et un engagement clair aux côtés des personnes victimes. L’égalité n’est pas un slogan, c’est une politique publique que nous souhaitons mettre en place concrètement.

The Jailed Colonial Boy

In the first episode of a short series marking the International Week of Solidarity with the Peoples Struggling against Racism and Racial Discrimination (21-27 March), Daniel Muia joins Anna Clarke, Strategic Director of the IACD.

The week also includes International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (21 March), and the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade (25 March).

Daniel Muia is the Chair of the International Association for Community Development (IACD). He is also a Senior Lecturer, teaching Community Development at Kenyatta University in Nairobi, Kenya and a Founding Chair of the Association of Community Development Practitioners - Kenya (acdp-k):

As part of the discussion, Daniel identifies the three components of solidarity according to Emile Durkheim: Inter-dependence, Collective Consciousness and Social Cohesion.

The Walter Rodney book that Daniel mentions is ‘How Europe Underdeveloped Africa’, first published in 1972.
