Le Kintsugi, l'art de réparer les objets en sublimant les cassures; une aptitude spirituelle qui s’affranchit de l’exigence de perfection.

Originaire du Japon, le kintsugi est un art qui permet de réparer avec de l’or un objet cassé auquel on tient et l’histoire personnelle qui y est liée. Le mot Kintsugi vient du Japonais Kin (or) et Tsugi (jointure), signifiant littéralement : jointure à l’or. 

Symbole du renouveau, cet art est avant tout une manière de percevoir la beauté qui réside dans l’imperfection. Souvent qualifiée d'art de la résilience", cette technique cherche à mettre en valeur les défauts d’un objet brisé plutôt que de chercher à les masquer. Le Kintsugi est donc empreint d’une forte philosophie qui consiste à honorer le passé d’un objet cassé en le rendant plus résistant. Sublimé grâce à la poudre d’or, l’objet gagne en beauté et acquiert une nouvelle valeur grâce à ses fissures.

Véritable illustration de renaissance et d’espoir, cette pensée bouddhiste s’affranchit de l’exigence de perfection et révèle la beauté de l’usure naturelle et des épreuves de la vie.

Ce procédé de restauration traditionnel a lieu en plusieurs étapes et peut s’étaler sur plusieurs mois. En moyenne, une œuvre nécessite un mois de travail ; toutefois, il est largement reconnu que les plus belles réparations mettent plus d’un an à être réalisées. Par la rigueur et le temps qu’il nécessite, le Kintsugi est une métaphore du chemin de guérison et de cicatrisation, qu’il s’agisse d’une blessure physique, ou émotionnelle.

À la fois esthétique et spirituel, le Kintsugi (金継ぎ) est une technique ancestrale, découverte au XVème siècle au pays du Soleil Levant, qui consiste à réparer les céramiques, porcelaines et faïences en les embellissant avec de la véritable poudre d’or.

"Unlikely", the second album by Luxembourg trio Dock In Absolute offers further confirmation of their genre-shifting approach to trio jazz, with familiar bop elements intermingled with classical, pop and post-rock elements. 

Pianist Jean-Philippe Koch’s romantic melodism, electric bassist David Kintziger’s flowing lyricism (which is reminiscent of Steve Swallow) and percussionist Michel Mootz’s approach to the whole kit as an integrated musical instrument yields up an album of sustained and often surprising beauty.  

Now regulars in the CAM JAZZ catalogue as well as on the European festival circuit, Dock In Absolute bring an immediately recognisable spin to an otherwise well-worn instrumental combination.

The Exquisite Pain

After training as a visual artist, musician and teacher,
David decided to devote his time to performing and to teaching the arts in multidisciplinary, intergenerational
workshops.

David is a multi-talented, creative artist and a musician
who loves a challenge. This double bassist, guitarist,
leader of instrumental ensembles and designer of
improvised string instruments is always on the lookout
for new experiences.

In 2006, with pianist Baptiste Vaes, he came third in the Strade del cinema international silent film mustic festival in Aosta, and has gone from strength to strength since then.

David, a leading figure on the Belgian and international jazz-rock scenes and a lover of jam sessions, is also a dancer and an actor-composer/improviser in the Undo 3 project.

Having studied classical music at the « André Modeste Grétry » Academy, David went on to study jazz at « the Marcel Désiron » Academy and « AKDT de Libramont » along side famous musicians such as Fabien Degryse, Erwin Vann, Pirly Zurstrassen, Daniel Stokart, Alain Rochette, Nicolas Thys, André Klenes, Philippe Doyen...

He then went to the Liège Royal Conservatoire, where, among other things, he specialised in improvised music under Garrett Litz and melodic rhythm in chamber
rock under Michel Massot.
