So when an idiot with a knife says he doesn’t care to mess the space, the home, nor the mathemagical inflections of the gathered, petrified people around him — albeit just after throwing me down a passage, and fresh from leaving scars and bruises on his girlfriend’s body…

Fuck that. 

I’ve been known to create a party from pain, many (many!) times in my life before. 

And while I’m not (pretending to be) some worldwide-recognised sound engineer, I make things myself, and am yet to resort to AI.

Nah. My rough-cut poetry and ‘homemade’ mashups aren’t on any type of #SteveOaki level, but I have an audience (here, there, and everywhere) — and am quite vomit-ready to leverage this story. 

I own it. Mine. And care too for all (but one) of the other people wrapped into it, and it’s the fire that burns that reminds me that I know how to “lob” this into the Universe for traction, because more than just my own moment in time, #DomesticViolence, #WomenAbuse, #gaslighting, #intimidation, #bullying, #theft and #ShortManSyndrome start the list of just some that I might nudge, from my own, owned, lived experience, that’s come to be anything but soundcloud.com/iancredible.

On Sept. 30, 2006 Christan Rainey’s life was forever changed when his month and 4 siblings were murdered in a domestic violence incident. Out of that tragedy, he formed MAD USA, Inc., a non-profit to assist victims of domestic violence and educating people, particularly men, about domestic violence. The organization’s 8th annual Domestic Violence Awareness Event will take place at the Sam’s Club in North Charleston on Saturday, Oct. 5. Rainey provided all of the information for the event, including who the event is for, and how it will assist the community. He also shared some tips for both victims, and steps you can take if you believe someone is begin affect by domestic violence.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and this year the American Cancer Society is celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Charleston Making Strides event. Tricia Bantz with the American Cancer Society describes the event, explains what “Making Strides” is about, and how people can join the free event. Additionally, Bantz talked about where the money that the event raises will go, and some of the many services the American Cancer Society provides in the Lowcountry.

Smith has been recognized for her stellar reporting work. She was awarded the Robert L. Vann Media Award for Radio/Public Affairs feature story, “Sister Friend Provides Feminine Care Products to Homeless Women.” (2017). Smith is also an awardee of the New Pittsburgh Courier 2016 Women of Excellence.

In 2013, Danielle received the Community Spirit Award for Excellence in Broadcast Journalism from North Side Institutional Church.  In 2012, Smith teamed with other members of the AURN newsroom to win a Robert L. Vann Award for excellence (Voting Rights Series) from the Pittsburgh Black Media Federation (PBMF).

Danielle’s also a member of PBMF and participated in their Frank Bolden Urban Journalism workshop as a high school student. Smith is a former contributing writer for the Soul Pitt Media quarterly magazine. She’s also a Communications board member for the Functional Literacy Ministry of Haiti, a Christian nonprofit organization that provides health, hope, educational guidance and evangelism to Haitians in Haiti.

Danielle earned a Bachelor’s of Arts in Broadcasting from Point Park University (Pittsburgh, PA).
