Today on The Neil Haley Show, Neil "The Media Giant" Haley interviews Don Mclean. 

Don McLean is a GRAMMY Award honoree, a Songwriter Hall of Fame member, and a BBC Lifetime Achievement Award recipient. His smash hit “American Pie” resides in the Library of Congress National Recording Registry and was named a Top 5 Song of the 20th Century by the Recording Industry of America (RIAA). A New York native, Don McLean is one of the most revered and respected songwriters in American history. After paying his dues in the New York club scene in the late 1960s, he went on to score mega-hits like “Vincent (Starry, Starry Night),” “Castles in the Air” and many more. His catalog of songs has been recorded by Madonna, Garth Brooks, Josh Groban, Drake, “Weird Al” Yankovic, and countless others. In 2015, McLean’s handwritten manuscript of “American Pie” lyrics was auctioned by Christie's, selling for just over $1.2 Million. 2019 honored Don with a star on the Las Vegas Walkway of Stars, and his song “And I Love You So” was the theme for Prince Harry and Megan Markle’s wedding.

Acoustic guitar cover song from me of the 1971 rock n roll pop hit song American Pie by Don McLean and I've included a video montage tribute to the 1970's America, one of the few places in the world I have never visited (Good morning America Land, have a most fabulous day over there !) We used to play this song on the juke box of the City Tavern pub opposite  the Piazza in Gibraltar when I lived there for 18 months in the 70's on the shore base HMS Rooke when I was in the Royal Navy and just like the groupies in the film Almost Famous we all knew the chorus to this one but mumbled the rest in it's entirety whilst sipping on our never ending 23 out of 24 hours per day local drinks supply. Classic song written and recorded by Don McLean in 1971 in recognition of the plane crash that killed all those early rock n roll stars back in 1959. The song reflects how it affected Don throughout his life. Hope you enjoy my version of the song.

An afterthought or afterword. Imagine our surprise when Dáithí’s baby sister, now in her 50s, revealed that she’d sold her voice to an Artificial Intelligence speech production company. She persuaded a friend to do likewise. They won’t tell us what they got paid, but we bought all the voices for this ‘song’ for less than a fiver. The rest is stolen, in the spirit of Stravinsky, T.S. Elliot and some Ancient Greek geezer whose name we’ve forgotten. With thanks to Brónagh, Órlaith and the other voice-bots, as well as Don (American Pie) McLean, Elvis (All Shook Up) Presley, and Al (Take Me to the River) Green.That’s Al, not AI. Always choose your fonts, friends and whiskey carefully. Moral: If you can’t join them, beat them with their own sticks. It’s neither ironic nor sarcastic. Merely wry.  Slàinte!

Hi, I started out singing in the 60's. I played in several groups, made a few records. Never went fully pro just played youth clubs, pubs, and socials. 

I play a little guitar and piano just mainly chords and I write a few songs. I purchased a Tyros work station keyboard about 14 years ago and started recording many songs mainly covers. Hope you enjoy listening to some of them.

Michael Johnathon is a folksinger, songwriter, concert performer, author who created and hosts the worldwide broadcast of the WoodSongs Old-Time Radio Hour with a radio audience with over a million listeners each week on 500 public radio stations, PBS-TV coast-to-coast plus American Forces Radio Network in 173 nations. Michael is also a playwright ... his play Walden: The Ballad of Thoreau has over 9,000 registered performances in 42 countries and translated into four languages.

His latest CD release is "MyCOVERS" (download the one sheet PDF) and his fifth book, "WoodSongs 5 was release in 2024.

This 'Woody Guthrie in a Cyber World' grew up in upstate New York along the shores of the Hudson River. At 19 years old, he moved to the Mexican border town of Laredo, Texas and found a job working as the late night DJ on a small radio station. One night, he played 'Turn, Turn, Turn' by the 60's folk rock group The Byrds. As the song played, he recalled seeing the songs writer, his neighbor Pete Seeger, performing in his Dutchess County hometown in New York. By the time the song had ended, he decided to pursue a career as a folksinger.

Two months later, he bought a guitar and a banjo and settled into the isolated mountain hamlet of Mousie, Kentucky. For the next three years, he traveled up and down the hollers of the Appalachian mountains knocking on doors and learning the music of the mountain people. Michael experienced hundreds of front porch hootenannies where folks would pull out their banjos and fiddles, sit on their front porches with him and play the old songs that their grandparents taught them.

Soon enough, he began performing concerts at hundreds of colleges, schools and fairs. He performed two thousand Earth Concerts, plus benefits for the homeless, farm families, and shelters helping battered women and children. In all, he sang to over two million people in one four-year stretch. Billboard Magazine headlined him as an "UnSung Hero." He has been featured on CNN, TNN, CMT, AP, Headline News, NPR, Bravo and the BBC

A former songwriting major at Berklee College of Music, Don Denaburg has performed across Canada as a member of The River Street Band.
