Best XXX Ever (Mom Don't Read) - 10 Year Anniversary Edition

"You know how sometimes, out of kindness, you try to convince the one you're leaving that 'it's not you, it's me.'," she said.  "Well, this time...it IS you, not me."  

This is another track rescued from The Vault--created as a potential Interbay Experiment that I would post (with a video) over on Facebook...only to switch to posting audio-only tracks every day (so far) for over 200 straight days, leaving this...and quite a few others, gathering dust on a shelf in The Vault.  

I've recently crawled into The Vault, blown some of the dust off of these never before published tracks, and listening to them...just in case there is a hidden gem buried in there.  

This was, at the time, a purely instrumental track that I'd called "Unhurried" for its languid pace.  It was rather nice...and it would have made a fine Experiment just as it was when I'd left it there.  

...but, for it to be posted here as a SoundCloud Exclusive, I needed to bring the sledgehammer out to bang it into shape.  For one thing, I've made it a rule that all Interbay posted tracks (so far) should have some sort of vocal element to them--and so I needed to find something that might work with this track.  

Upon crafting an appropriate vocal element, I then needed to restructure the song so there would be a more coherent song structure, rather than the meandering stream that was the original version.  

In the end, this track gained well over 90 seconds...and even as I post this, I'm not sure I made the chorus (such as it is) stand out enough from verses or the instrumental parts.  

I liked the name, "Unhurried," and I liked that it described the instrumental quite well--so, I decided to keep it and work with it for this vocal version.  Once again, my refusal to sing on Interbay tracks (yet--I promise, it will come soon...it is the plan) made my life more difficult.  I came up with words, but no one to sing them.  

...and it was at that point, when I was swiping through potential generative text to speech voices, that I realized that I'd taken the wrong approach to the lyrics.  I'd written another "woe is me" sad sack sort of song--great for keeping my Goth Credibility score high, but is that ALL I could express in these songs?  I could write about anything.  

So, instead of sadness...I chose to write about regrets, others' disappointments, and my own recrimination.  So...It's not so much 'woe is me' as it is 'you should have woe,' she said.  

I wanted to give voice to those whose affections for me wore off.  I wanted to confront my lingering guilt for not being the person I thought I was, much less the person they wanted me to be.  I wanted a break-up song told from THEIR perspective.  

Now, I've borrowed some feelings from a couple of real life relationships and tossed 'em in a blender, hit puree, and these are the words that came out.  This is not a track about any specific person or situation.  It is more likely that it could apply to all of them.

So, what we have here is a piano ballad with strings, a bassoon, and a trombone...sprinkled with strange effects and electronic noises...and topped off with a scoop of personal failings and the difficulty in accepting my own culpability in my unhappiness.  

YUMMY!  

Very different from the often noisy (and far too long) excursions into various dance and rock genres, this.  I hope you listen to it and let me know if you like it.  And follow the page while you're at it--who knows what tomorrow's track will be like?!?!

Don’t be alarmed if the road feels a few minutes longer every time you drive it.

That's because it is.

As the road lengthens, new side streets may appear. Do not take these, however alluring. Gas stations may pop up to fill in stretches of empty desert. Be wary of purchasing snack brands from them you have never heard of or that do not exist. Cacti will show up every few miles that weren't there on your last drive. These are just cacti. 

No need to fear the cacti.

If your drive on Route 333 takes more than thirty minutes than the last time, report such fluctuations immediately. Multiple former employees, who failed to report such anomalies, are still stuck there.
