On one of the first episodes of INSession, we profiled Allen Superior Court’s Family Recovery Court (FRC). It’s among the newest problem-solving courts in Allen County, Indiana, providing help to families that saves lives, families and futures.  

Family Recovery Court tackles a complex mission by offering specialized help and treatment to families and caregivers who find themselves in court to address abuse and neglect cases rooted in substance abuse.

In Court, clients have a network of support, the likes of which many of them have never experienced at their fingertips. But outside the courtroom, FRC clients can face a barrage of temptations and exposures to drugs and alcohol that threaten their recovery.

On this episode, we’re talking about the safety net of resources that those dealing with addictions can tap into AFTER the gavel falls.

Episode 15: "Turning Pain Into Purpose" - Saving Lives Through Harm Reduction

The Wollongong and District Law Society has submitted a formal request to the New South Wales Attorney General for the establishment of a local Drug Court.

The submission highlights the success of the state's existing four Drug Courts, which have achieved a 17% reduction in re-offending rates among participants. It also underscores the critical need for such a court in the Illawarra region.

Criminal lawyer and Morrisons partner Matt Ward notes that a Drug Court benefits not only the offenders but the community as a whole.

Every year, in June and December, a special event takes place on the third floor of the Allen County Courthouse. It look like a party, but it’s much, much more. In the same courtroom where some of Allen County’s most notorious cases are heard, a celebration of life occurs. Men and women who stood before a Judge just weeks before, stand before their families and friends to celebrate the relaunch of their lives. It’s Drug Court graduation day. A day when those whose lives have been hijacked by drugs and alcohol take back their stories and choose their futures.
