I am aware that the oriental sound is often seen as a Western interpretation of the music that originates from countries like Armenia, Iran, India, and others.

The song "Alami" by Koudede & Mula comes from Niger, a country in West Africa. The music belongs to the Tuareg (or Tamasheq) culture, which is primarily found in the Sahara region, spanning across Niger, Mali, Algeria, and Libya. The language of the song is likely Tamasheq, a Berber language spoken by the Tuareg people. The music falls under the Tuareg desert blues genre, blending traditional Tuareg rhythms with modern electric guitar influences, often carrying themes of nomadic life, resistance, and cultural identity.

In the track "Snake Oil," the instrumental piece was composed by Fouad El Zahery. It appears on the album Nile 'N Sahara: A Bouquet of Exotic Music from Egypt, which features various Egyptian compositions

Swan's Dreams

From the vibrant heart of Toronto's world music scene emerges Ethnosonic, a groundbreaking ensemble founded in March 2024 by visionary composer Aslan Gotov and virtuoso bassist Viktor Khomenko. Joined by duduk player Sar Kamler as co-creator and manager, the band crafts an extraordinary fusion where Circassian, Armenian, and Ukrainian folk traditions collide with contemporary jazz and funk sensibilities.
The journey began with drummer Nazar Zymbovych and guitarist Inal Gotov, evolving to include the masterful reed work of Alex Boychouk, the rhythmic precision of drummer Adam Mansfield, and the textural brilliance of accordionist Val Chitac. This constellation of talents creates a sound that defies traditional genre boundaries while honoring their rich cultural roots.

In May 2024, Ethnosonic captured their first four compositions in a landmark recording session, featuring original works by Kamler with arrangements by Gotov. Their debut singles—the ethereal "Little Paradise" and the dynamic "Funky Sar"—were unveiled in late 2024, with the atmospheric "Swan's Dream" and the rhythmically adventurous "Mountain Dance" following closely behind.

The band's innovative approach caught the attention of the Ontario Arts Council, resulting in a prestigious grant in October 2024. This support fuels their current focus: crafting a debut album slated for mid-2025. Following their premiere at Toronto's Drom Taberna in October 2024, the ensemble achieved a remarkable milestone in January 2025 with their sold-out concert "Duduk, Jazz & Winter Nights" at the 389-seat City Playhouse Theatre, marking a pivotal moment in their rapid ascent.
At Ethnosonic's core lies a profound respect for tradition paired with an unwavering drive for innovation. The haunting voice of the Armenian duduk weaves through intricate folk rhythms and contemporary harmonies, creating a musical tapestry that bridges centuries and cultures. Each performance invites audiences to experience the evolution of ethnic music through a boldly modern lens, proving that cultural preservation and artistic innovation can dance as one.

Hi, I’m Ziki, and you just ate me. Unlike my cousin, peyote or more comenly know as San Pedro cacti, which contain psychoactive compounds, the effects of eating me include hearing oriental, trippy, and tribal sounds, often with 500 Hz rides. The effects can last anywhere from 1 to 3 hours, and trust me, I’ll take your mind straight to the Sahara.
