I rebuild these melodies with martial pulses, rustic drones, and pastoral timbres to preserve their spirit—while giving them a modern, cinematic weight.

TopfHelm – one-man Dungeon Folk from Belarus

TopfHelm brings to life the chaos of the medieval world, where crusaders drink, fight, and prepare for their last stand. The music fuses the rawness of acoustic medieval instruments, thunderous war percussion, and dark folk melodies, crafting an atmosphere that feels like a drunken brawl in a castle hall or the final march before a siege.

Unlike traditional Dungeon Synth, which is rooted in synthesizers and dark ambient textures, TopfHelm reshapes the genre by removing electronic sounds altogether. Instead, the music is built on realistic medieval instrument emulations, from hurdy-gurdy, lutes, and war drums to flutes and bagpipes, creating an authentic yet raw medieval soundscape. This marks the emergence of Dungeon Folk, a subgenre that strips away synthetic elements in favor of a more immersive, battle-scarred medieval atmosphere.

As a one-man project, TopfHelm stands at the forefront of this new wave of Dungeon Folk, forging a unique sound that resonates with fans of medieval music, dark folk, and battle anthems.
