Frankfurt’s Phil Evans has a knack for distilling the essence of Deep House into something that feels both timeless and alive in the moment - a skill honed over years of running labels, curating releases, and playing marathon sets as a Robert Johnson resident. On "Free", the B1 cut from his second studio album "E-Motions" on his own Freizeit Records, Evans delivers exactly what the genre promises at its very best: depth, groove, and an unshakable sense of sophistication.

Deep, velvety chords lay the foundation while airy pads drift through like late-night fog over empty city streets. A spoken vocal - “I just want to be free, cruising through the streets, to that beat, moving in my seat” - threads itself between the beats, adding a human warmth to the precision-tooled production. Torture the Artist is a webzine, or a magazine made for the internet, geared towards those with a passion for contemporary electronic music, with sub-genres including House, Tech House, Deep House, Hip House, Minimal, UKG, Breaks, as well as a small amount of Electronica.Founded in 2014 by Holger Breuer, a German native and lover of the arts, Torture the Artist now consists of five team members from all around the world.

In addition to publishing interviews, music reviews, DJ charts and track premieres, the webzine hosts out a  podcast series called 'art:casts'. This medium gives DJs and producers the artistic freedom to highlight their different musical styles while not being restricted by factors such as setting, and connecting them to a wider audience. 

Being in its twelfth year Torture the Artist has gained a strong and active online support group, including music enthusiasts to label managers and artists themselves, creating a cohesive community with music as their bond.
