We´re back with the second installment in the "33 Degrees" series by Ori Kaplan. 

On his new single, „33 Degrees South“ saxophonist and wind traveler Ori Kaplan traces a path across continents and soundscapes. It´s a tight three-track ride through dusty horns, twisted jazz lines, and Middle Eastern heat. It’s raw, rhythmic, and full of soul—like a late-night jam session between Mulatu and the Mediterranean. It’s ancient rhythm, rewired.

  "Free Love" is a hypnotic opener, lush and yearning, this track floats on warm harmonies and serpentine melodies—freedom never sounded so intimate.

  "Pepidu" is a Tony Allen afrobeat driven track with spiraling flute lines, like a caravan slowly catching fire.  

"33 Degrees East“, drives the compass home with a strong horn section and bold improvisation, closing the set with a sense of destination and discovery and a surprise boom bap ending.  Whether you’re a jazz head, a world traveler, or just someone craving something deep and different, Ori Kaplan´s "33 Degrees South" invites you into a space where geography bends and music speaks every tongue.

Matatu this time comes with a special guest, Max Doblhoff, an Austrian musician, DJ and Producer who is also based in Kenya. He takes on such a beautiful journey of music from traditional sounds of the giriama to downtempo interpretations. He also talks about his project Music from East Africa where he showcases different traditional sounds from Kenya and other parts of East Africa. This show was aired on 04.10.25.
