During the second edition of Epika, Ro Speedboat turned up the heat in the New Wave Lab at Epika Haarlem. The basement-like area turned real sweaty, so bring a towel!

What a tough job to make a selection of my favourite tracks I played and danced to in 2023. But here it is, a short version, because if I wanted to play all my favourite tracks the mix would be twice as long. Enjoy and happy 2024!

Yihaaa our first gig together. 

We were thrilled to see that people came out early to dance, so we had a full dance floor for the second half of the set (what an amazing sight).
You can imagine that it gave us a tremendous amount of energy probably that was evident from how we were dancing behind the decks

iluna is a Scottish DJ & producer. The name ‘iluna’ (derived from the Basque adjective ilun) meaning "darkness; dark; somber; gloomy; mysterious; obscure", perfectly sums up iluna’s sound. iluna has residencies with Surge in Glasgow, EpiKA (Edinburgh), Tribal Pulse and has supported the likes of VITALIC, Harvey McKay, Co-accused and will be performing at this year’s Terminal V Festival in Edinburgh.This year sees iluna launch her own music collective & club night ASCEND launching in The Poetry Club Friday 26th April. ASCEND delves into the deep, dark, hypnotic & hard side of techno, supporting highly skilled artists with that extra attention to detail. 
By day iluna works as Project Manager for Resonate Music Conference, label manager for 23rd Precinct’s in-house labels & label assistant for Trial Pulse.

"I wanted this mix to be dark and… almost boring. With repetitive noises, echoes, without any breakdowns or groove. To bring back the sound from times when techno was a form of almost a rebellion, played in dark basements and warehouses - with poor lighting and with people wearing plain comfortable clothes. It’s again this idea of a party where the DJ is invisible, and the only thing they do is make people forget about the reality."

Bio: 
ona:v is a Polish-born DJ, producer and promoter with an ear for textural techno and dark electro. A scientist by day and a DJ by night, the Edinburgh-based artist is an integral figure in her locale, both as a DJ and through event curation.

Having built an extensive track collection for several years, ona:v debuted on Edinburgh’s club circuit in 2019, with bookings across the UK making up her diary since. On home turf, ona:v plays regular gigs in Scotland’s biggest venues, having supported Ben Klock, SLAM, Fjaak, Anne, Isabel Soto, Clouds, EKATA and many others. Outside of Scotland, she closed for Clouds and Randomer at The Cause, played at London’s Risen and Necropolis Festivals and in Berlin’s Mensch-Meier and About Blank. 2022 saw her Polish debut, and in 2021/22 she streamed from Berlin’s HÖR Radio. More recently, for two years in a row, she headlined the basement stage curated by Sisu at Hidden Door — a prolific visual art and music festival in Edinburgh, and performed multiple times at Scotland’s biggest festival – Terminal V.

In 2020, ona:v founded EPiKA, and started promoting EPiKA’s bi-monthly party called CiRCLE in Edinburgh. Here, she creates a nurturing environment for beginner female and non-binary DJs playing more underground flavours of electronics, with focus on techno. She also garners a radio residency on London’s Threads Radio and is an internal member and a resident DJ with the Sisu crew. Production-wise, she has released techno and electro tracks on multiple compilations and released her debut EP, Response to the Techno Crisis, on Diffuse Reality in 2022.

I tried to capture not only the tracks and producers that I like, but also all the thoughts and feelings I have when I try to let the music flow. "I think this mix reflects a lot of my mood recently- anxiously waiting for exams to be over and summer to begin. It’s slower than I usually play, with long transitions and built up tension. But I hope towards the end there’s a sense of relief."

Enaen is a Chicago born and Edinburgh based DJ with a love for deep techno and hardgroove. She made her Edinburgh debut in 2023 and has since then played at several clubs and radio shows across Scotland and the UK. She is now a resident at EPiKA Edinburgh since April of this year.

"Influenced by the past few months of this year, this mix pulls together an amalgamation of my moodier, happier, energetic and trippier side of sounds into one. Feeling full of energy, this year has brought incredibly inspirational gigs, DJ lessons, dances and bookings. Having two headline bookings this year has made me think about set energy differently, hence some of the abso slammers. It’s special to be back hosting a mix on Mantissa for the magical collective EPiKA in Scotland, of which I'm proud to be a resident - what a collaboration! Big love x"
