EvilGroove is an American-based techno label co-founded by Lindsey Herbert and Jason Doll that has featured artists such as Truncate, Kr!z, Hemka, DJ Hyperactive, and Dustin Zahn, as well as supporting simmering underground talent.

Centeno is an experienced Argentinian DJ and producer returning to EvilGroove for another VA appearance, while also lsting appearances on Bruno Ledesma's Concepto Hipnotico, Duplicity, Xelima, and CO-EV Records, amongst others.

For this DT:Premiere we selected "Blue Confusion" with an uptempo and eerie sound. A thumping kick and dancing bassline combine for pure energy, while a string-like melody provides a unique feeling of tension. Later met with modular accents and other analogue textures, this is a dance floor weapon for any discerning selector.

To honour the enduring appeal of a great musical rework, Hell Yeah is launching The Art of Remix. This essential new series collects the best remixes from a range of label favourites. First up is Japanese downtempo master Calm with exclusive, never-before-on-vinyl versions of originals by Cantoma, Aura Safari, DJ Sofa’s Dream Baby Dream, Seahawks, Gallo, Yuichiro Kato and more. The release comes with rich liner notes by the authoritative Dr Rob from Ban Ban Ton Ton, and a second volume from Is It Balearic's Coyote will follow soon.

Remixes have always been at the heart of Hell Yeah's output as a way of reworking classic sounds into different contexts, allowing artists to explore outside their usual remit and also to introduce new talents. Calm has long perfected the art with his famously laidback takes on all sorts of Balearic, house, dub and acid under the Mellow Mellow Acid subtitle. He's remixed many a Japanese legend but also a wealth of artists from across the world, and eight of those reimagined gems balance euphoria with solitude on this first volume.

First, his take on Cantoma's 'Way To The Sun' infuses drones and chimes with bubbly acid. 'Sur Mon Balconnet' shimmers with Spanish guitar and sultry sax, ghosts of yesterday still shuffling. 'Banana Trance' jolts with breakbeats while taking a Balearic leap into hedonism. Mininni’s 'Vertigo' drifts dubwise, from monastic chants to operatic bursts. Meitei Mahi’s 'Dounika Kounika' growls dark and sleazy as acid and riffs collide, 'Abysso' floats with strings and sirens in symphony, 'Blue Surround' lulls before exploding with jazz fire and Kato’s 'Kiss of Life' closes with a cosmic, romantic serenade.

The compilation was created as a collective response to the times we’re living in — a project shaped by protest and a refusal to stay silent. It brings together 19 artists who contributed tracks as personal reflections on everything that is happening in the world right now. 

A note from the artist: 

This track opens my downtempo live set and stands as a clear political statement. The original text was written by Gino Strada, founder of the humanitarian NGO Emergency, who spent his life exposing the reality of war and defending civilian populations devastated by armed conflicts.

The voice is taken from a public intervention by Elio Germano, an Italian actor openly committed to denouncing the economic and industrial interests that profit from war and militarization.

By asking UltraK to record the text in French, the words are displaced from their original context and transformed into a collective message that goes beyond national borders.This piece refuses neutrality. It points directly at the systems that normalize violence, turn war into business, and reduce human lives to collateral damage. It is an invitation to listen, to take a position, and to remember that silence is never neutral.
