Recorded live at the Asheville Movement Collective weekly Friday Night Dance on June 7, 2024.

This mix was created with a deep reverence to the Blue Ridge, Smokey Mountains of North Carolina and the music and culture that has been birthed and cultivated there over time.

With awareness that the folk songs of the ancestors in Ireland and Scotland inspired new music such as bluegrass to be cultivated in these very Appalachian Mountains.

I wanted to include this music in the dance set in gratitude. This set is full of electronic versions the originals and remixes of more modern hip hop and house. This remixed series of songs was blended with my personal prayers to these lands. 

My dad played the banjo and I have always been inspired by Appalachian bluegrass and the twang of banjo picking.

I now release this set, as not only was it one of my personal favorite mixes, though also now, at a time when the devastating floods due to Hurricane Helene have affected the entire Asheville and North Carolina communities. This set goes out as a prayer to all those affected as support and healing. 

I didn't post this earlier as there were a couple of DJ imperfections that I didn't like as an artist, so please excuse a couple of messy parts. Hopefully, you won't notice, or perhaps it's not too bad so you can ignore it and enjoy it anyway.

Honoring the musicians and producers I included such as Human Experience, Rising Appalachia, Tropo, and a remix of Petey Pablo's Raise Up.

Classical Ecstasy (Ecstatic Dance @ Connection in Motion 2024)

The kirtan was led by Taniya Mataji at Gir Farms, Caledon, Ontario.

The deepest purpose at Gir Farms is to educate society about the importance of cows and bulls. By bringing awareness about the significance of these divine beings and showing how they impact our daily lives from our environment, spiritual well being, mental health and our diet. The way to ensure their well being is through agriculture, because their main product is cow dung and cow urine.

Linda Flores Maiaiai (belle fleur lumineuse) résonne puissamment et intensément à l’instar d’un cercle vertueux et vertigineux qui tournoie de plus en plus vite, faisant voler en éclat les frontières du visible et les limites que nous nous imposons.

L’icaro de Stefania Pastorelli (mama), qui se décrit comme « plant consciousness granma » mélange trois langues péruviennes : l’ashánika, le quechua et l’espagnol. Par son chant, elle appelle l’esprit qui vient soigner. La rythmique, ternaire puis binaire, apporte la transe nécessaire à la guérison. Il s’en dégage une énergie profonde et universelle.

In all moments of my life sound and music have guided me into the deepest aspects and realms of self expression, initiation, purification and alchemy. 

Sound and silence are deep medicines. My sets are quite worldly and haunting. They are tailored towards the emotions that surface on the dance floor. Each dance is a collaborative weaving of all that are present in the space, and the journeys all quite differ from one another. 

My path with sound and music has been one of personal growth, community, integration and dancing with the shadow. Within my sets you will get glimpses and doses of Latin funk, throbbing bass, 4 on the floor, ambient strings, tribal drum, melodic and classical compositions, conscious floetry, binaural beats and haunting sounds of ancestors and tribe unknown. 

Through dance we have an opportunity to discover, unleash, and enhance our individual potential to live a more fulfilling and meaningful life. By engaging our senses and listening to our bodies, we connect to others from our hearts more than our minds and together we shape a consciousness that extends beyond our own bodies. 

The invitation is to treat these spaces as more than dances, and to allow yourself to expand beyond your perceived notion of who and what it is that you believe yourself to be.

Since 2020 Manuel is again actively playing music as a Dj, mainly for Ecstatic Dance, under the name 'Mahaū'. Already in his early youth he had his first attempts behind the turntables. Between 2008-2015 he recorded and released various mix sets as a Dj under the synonym 'beatcook / beatCuisine'.

Playing the handpan has been enriching his musical repertoire for more than three years and over time binaural beats, natural sounds, mantras and other digital sounds have become part of his music.
He especially loves Ecstatic Dance, Trance Dance and Cosmic Sound Journeys. In 2021 Mama Cacao came into his life and started healing this heart, so that he can share the healing process through music and dance.
