Marking MER’s new release, Cosmic Funk Expo vol.2 continues the journey begun in vol.1, distilling the essence of jazz-funk—a genre that captivated the world in the late 1970s and early 1980s—reimagined through modern electronic sounds. It features a tight groove woven from bouncy beats, undulating synth basslines, and percussive slap bass, layered with spacey synthesizer arrangements, piano, and brass. The result is a work brimming with the uplifting energy, futuristic flair, and mellow vibes characteristic of that era’s crossover jazz.

MER, a creative imprint and artist project under Model Electronic Records (@ModelElectronic), was originally created for the film and broadcasting industry and has earned strong recognition from music supervisors across the United States, Japan, and beyond. The series became available to a broader audience with the public release of "Anti-Crime Breaks" on Apple Music, Spotify, and other platforms. 

“Cosmic Funk Expo 2: Vintage Electronic Jazz Funk Vibes,” the latest release under the moniker of MER, is a compilation album that captures the atmosphere of jazz-funk, which captivated the globe in the late ’70s and early ’80s, and elevates it into the realms of modern electronic music and R&B. With bouncy beats, undulating synth bass, and percussive slap bass creating tight grooves; the music is further enhanced by arrangements of spacey synths, piano, and brass. This album is packed with the euphoria, futuristic spirit, and mellowness unique to crossover jazz of that era. Blending a vintage aesthetic reminiscent of modern hip-hop, R&B, and vaporwave, the album features 24 completely original tracks—no samples from existing recordings were used.
