Third session of the PWL International Seminar, hosted by Eli Kramer (University of Wrocław) & Leonard Waks (Temple University) who talked about "Growth Unbound: John Dewey on the Socio-Cultural Role of Philosophy as a Way of Life". The session took place on May 10, 2023.

The PWL International Seminar is held virtually once a month and takes place within the scope of the activities of the exploratory project Mapping Philosophy as a Way of Life: An Ancient Model, A Contemporary Approach, coordinated by Marta Faustino (CultureLab/IFILNOVA), and the activities of the research group Forms of Life and Practices of Philosophy, coordinated by Bartholomew Ryan (CultureLab/IFILNOVA).

Growth Unbound: John Dewey on the Socio-Cultural Role of Philosophy as a Way of Life (Kramer & Waks)

Eli Kramer (University of Wrocław) gave a presentation entitled “Speculative Philosophy as a Spiritual Exercise” (co-author Laura Mueller) in the context of the international conference "What Exactly is Philosophy as a Way of Life? Boundaries, Crossroads, Deadlocks". Organized by Marta Faustino (NOVA University of Lisbon) & Hélder Telo (University of Beira Interior), the kick-off conference of the Exploratory Project “Mapping Philosophy as a Way of Life: An Ancient Model, A Contemporary Approach” took place from 5 to 6 July 2023 at NOVA FCSH — NOVA University Lisbon.

Speculative Philosophy as a Spiritual Exercise (Eli Kramer)

Eli Kramer & Matteo Stettler talked about “Philosophy as a Way of Life and Existential Choice” at the "Mapping Philosophy as a Way of Life: Final Conference" that took place between October 16th and 18th, 2024. 

The final conference of the project “Mapping Philosophy as a Way of Life: An Ancient Model, A Contemporary Approach” brought together team members, consultants, and collaborators of the project in order to present the most significant results achieved in the last two years. In line with the project’s main objective, the conference mapped the vibrant and multifaceted field of philosophy as a way of life (PWL) and presented for the first time the main contents of the upcoming Oxford Handbook of Philosophy as a Way of Life. In doing so, it aimed to provide an up-to-date overview of the leading research trends in the field while also discussing new avenues of inquiry, use, and application of PWL.
