THE END OF THE WHOLE FKN WORLD

Para darle un cierre catártico a nuestra serie de podcasts sobre el Fin del Mundo recibimos a Betty Bloop (@betty_bloop), quien nos ofrenda una secuencia sonora que imagina y nos guía a través del proceso de duelo de nuestra propia muerte. 

Navegando en el espectro del bass y el dubstep norteamericano, el mixtape de Betty oscila entre la tristeza introspectiva de tramitar el fin, reconociendo la belleza de lo que se deja atrás, y los estruendos indiferentes de aceptar su inevitabilidad y querer despedirse sin remordimientos.

Para explicar sus intenciones con este mixtape, Betty nos dijo:

"What will happen to me when I die? Where will I go? How’s it going to happen to me? To my loved ones? To my brother, to my best friend? I think we fear the unknown, and these question are THE great unknown. 

The end of the world will surely be the end of us and our life as we know it and even though I fucking hate it here sometimes, I am so lucky and grateful to have this life. The fact that we are all here and connecting in the ways we do, through art, and all of it… It’s truly magical. 

If music is the universal language, the idea of creating a mixtape for the end of it is a hell of an undertaking. I knew I wanted this mix to reflect me and my sound palette, but I was also thinking it should be the soundtrack for what The End might be like. Sort of like the stages of grief but for your own death.

First I think I would be afraid, so the mix starts kind of spooky. Then I’d probably be a bit panicked and the music tries to reflect that. One thing about me is I don’t really freak out. I thought to go much harder with industrial sounds to reflect the discomfort of the feeling of impending doom, but I also wanted this mix to be beautiful, even at the scary parts.

Mid way through we have a bit of fun in the mix because I imagine we would reach a point of thinking “fuck it, let’s dance” while trying to remain true to the beautiful sadness of it all. I tend to lean towards somber music or dissonant sounds because they reflect how I feel on the inside, but always in a beautiful way.

The songs kind of tear in and out of each other and I allowed them to play out longer than in some of my other mixes. I wanted the listener to become involved emotionally. Honestly this mix could have been 4 hours. I narrowed it down to the story of acceptance of the inevitable. The end of the mix concludes with what I'd describe as 'hopeful ambience' because at the end of it all I think it will be a beautiful homecoming.

Ich bin sowohl als Produzent, als auch als DJ tätig. Ich kann sowohl den Soundtrack zu einer Party als auch die Hintergrundmusik eines Films produzieren. 

Ein weiterer positiver Aspekt ist, dass ich mich in verschiedenen Genres bewegen kann, sowie unterschiedliche Stile und Einflüsse kombiniere. Dies gibt mir eine größere kreative Freiheit, um neue Sounds zu erschaffen.
