Rival Consoles, the moniker of British electronic musician Ryan Lee West, has carved his own niche in the world of the experimental electronic. helping to define a lot of the sound of the always excellent Erased Tapes label.  Weaving intricate soundscapes of ambient, techno, and classical elements with an ethos to "make synthesizers sound human", West is now back with the single “Coda” Another snapshot of nocturnal soundscaping, it follows up last year's album 'Now Is'. The single is accompanied by the announcement of new North American tour dates, his first in 5 years.

I'm humbled to share with you a recording of one of my most recent public appearances - it's the opening set I played at “Meet Me At The Other Side for Progressive Picnic” - official pre-party gathering for “Once Upon A Beat 02” with special headliners Makebo (Rubicunda, All Day I Dream, Anjunadeep) and Kasper Koman (Lost Miracle, Lost & Found, Mango Alley). Both events took place on  May 17, 2025 consecutively at one of the best places in town - The Other Side, Amsterdam, NL. 

Tempo: 114 -> 120 bpm!

Gunnar Theuerkauff wurde 1978 in Lüneburg geboren und moderiert die Sendung Wellenrauschen bei Radio Zusa von Beginn an, seit 2002.

Bei „Wellenrauschen“ werden alle 2 Wochen sonntags Neuvorstellungen aus den Bereichen House, Downtempo, Ambient und Electronica präsentiert.

In dieser Sendung dreht sich alles um entspannte und atmosphärische Musik, die zum Träumen einlädt. Die Sendung soll die Hörer:innen an ihrem freien Sonntag zur inneren Einkehr einladen. Kontemplation wäre hier auch ein gutes Wort. 

Dabei legt Gunnar Theuerkauff großen Wert darauf, sich bei der Auswahl der Musik in seiner Sendung nicht von Genres und ihren Grenzen einengen zu lassen, deshalb benutzt er gerne die Formulierung „melodische elektronische Musik.“
„Wellenrauschen“ ist keine typische Clubsendung, sondern eher eine musikalische Reise durch verschiedene Spielarten elektronischer Musik – ruhig, melodisch, hypnotisch und vielschichtig. Die Tracks wirken wie ein Soundtrack zum Träumen, Denken oder Fühlen.

Gunnar bringt seine Leidenschaft für besondere Klänge und Melodien ein, um den Zuhörern eine angenehme und ruhige Höratmosphäre zu bieten. Es ist eine schöne Gelegenheit, neue Musik zu entdecken und einfach mal die Seele baumeln zu lassen. 

Die Sendung will eine Chill-out‑Atmosphäre schaffen – verträumte Melodien, sphärische Klänge, Beats, Rauschen, Vocals –, immer auf der Suche nach dem „gewissen Etwas“ und sensiblen Klanglandschaften.

Im Fokus stehen Neuvorstellungen, aber auch ältere, bereits veröffentlichte Schätze aus Theuerkauffs Archiv. Es werden bewusst keine Dance- oder Mainstream-Titel gespielt.

Heavily influenced since childhood by legendary electronic music bands such as The Prodigy, The Chemical Brothers, Lamb, Massive Attack, Underworld, Aphex Twin, Orbital, Hybrid, Way Out West, Global Communication and then pioneers such as Sasha, John Digweed, Hernan Cattaneo, Anthony Pappa, Danny Tenaglia, Satoshi Tomiie, Frankie Knuckles, Kerri Chandler, Larry Heard a.k.a. Mr. Fingers, Josh Wink, Kevin Saunderson to name but a few... I felt true attraction, discovered and ultimately fell completely in love with the DJ-craft or as I like to call it "the art of musical storytelling". It's been almost 25 years since this love runs through my veins and keeps growing as it's been fuelled by the incomparable feeling of sharing those inner experiences with like-minded people and fellow music lovers.

About my work – attention to detail in order to attain perfection in my studio mixes and live sets. I'm always looking for innovation and diversity. Trying to make a difference and leave my mark by always presenting something new, perceived as "outside the box", something that doesn't necessarily appeals to the masses but for those who share a deeper understanding and appreciation for the music in its richness. That is why my sets combine multiple flavors of carefully chosen underground electronic sound. Perfectionism concerning mix and music selection has always been a must and it can be easily sensed in my work, particularly when it comes to my studio projects. In other words, by following the latest currants of the vast field of my beloved electronic music while also by always recalling past moments of its long history that lead me to what I am presently, my focus goes to extracting the best material and putting it into a memorable musical trip that comes from the heart and shouldn't let you stay indifferent...
