The history of Nikko Wagaku Odori dates back to the Taisho era. In September 1913 (Taisho 2), Emperor Taisho and Empress Teimei visited Nikko Electric Copper Works (now Furukawa Electric Nikko Office).
At that time, it was the first time an emperor had visited a private company, and on the night of that historic event, the dance was spontaneously performed at a celebratory gathering for the company and its employees, marking the origin of the Nikko Wagaku Dance.
