MIX 0023 graces our ears thanks to Duck Trash, a Detroit-based DJ known for filling the midwest with out-of-this-world and out-of-the-box sounds. Mercurial and effervescent, this mix is for potion-making, daydreaming, and dancing alike, all with a sense of longing.

This is a mix of a bunch of my favs I found over this hibernation season. It's a mix that's ethereal & bubbly yet kinda brooding & has a sense of longing throughout, but it's gonna keep people groovin with the hard anchor beats throughout. Main genres I featured in this are dub techno, lofi house, experimental electro, and soft trance. Shoutout to all my friends whose great taste led me to these gems. And if you listen closely, you might just hear me singing a little bit...

Inizialmente questo brano si chiamava “New York”, ma successivamente, per le sonorità che aveva, gli diedi un altro nome che, secondo me, descriveva meglio quel periodo.

L’uscita dei tre membri dal GYM Studio non fu solo un problema relazionale ed emotivo. Alessandro aveva prodotto due album con quei ragazzi, e con l’abbandono dei progetti ci ritrovammo con circa 20 strumentali inutilizzate. Erano mesi di lavoro perduto.

Cercai di recuperare quel lavoro e di dargli un nuovo contesto e valore. Così creammo “GYM Studio Production”, ma a causa di problemi con il distributore, il progetto prese il nome di Arsaem, un duo di produttori formato da me e Alessandro, in cui cercavamo di vendere quelle strumentali in licenza sul web.

Da settembre a novembre mi dedicai a sviluppare tutto il materiale grafico per il progetto: logo, grafiche, video, pagine Instagram e YouTube. Spesi circa tre mesi a curarlo nel dettaglio. Nel frattempo, creai questa strumentale da utilizzare per Arsaem.

Decisi di tornare a lavorare e, nonostante la pandemia, trovai subito un impiego che mi permetteva di sostenere economicamente il progetto.

Andava tutto bene, ma pochi mesi dopo Alessandro perse interesse nel progetto, e anche io abbandonai la barca. Gettammo al vento il lavoro di entrambi, ma era un progetto da portare avanti in due. Da solo sarebbe stata un'altra fatica che non volevo affrontare.

Nonostante tutto, rimasi positivo. Avevo imparato un sacco di cose con questo progetto, tra cui l’idea che nulla è mai davvero perduto. Nulla è tempo sprecato.

A livello gestionale e promozionale, iniziai a vedere dei risultati, sia negli ascolti dei brani che nella vendita delle licenze. Per la prima volta ebbi un assaggio della convinzione che “si può fare”.

Tutto quel caos divenne controllato. Avevo imparato a fare un passo indietro quando tutto era confusionale, concentrarmi e riorganizzare la mia vita in base agli eventi che accadevano intorno a me.

Se questa non è essere un compositore, sia musicale che della vita, vi sfido a far di meglio.
