“This track is one of the most personal things I’ve ever written,” says Alec Pace. “It came from a place I wasn’t sure I’d ever share publicly. But this record is about breathing — letting things out that I’ve held in for too long.”

“Respiro 22:16 is a record that has grown with me. It wasn’t written in a single moment but across different stages of my life, between London and Turin — two cities that hold very different energies and memories for me. Each track captures a fragment of that time: love, distance, doubt, clarity, the feeling of standing still and the need to move. It’s the most honest thing I’ve ever made. I wanted to let my voice, my instruments, and the spaces I was in breathe together — to let the music carry everything I couldn’t fully say out loud. It’s about the pressure and beauty of time passing, of rhythms overlapping with emotions. ”

When "Fair & Lovely" was written, the story was shaped by the advertisements that had always hovered at the edges of my life—those bright, blinking instructions on how to be “better.” In the writing process, it was felt that pressures were being imposed on me rather than chosen by me, so the verses were framed as if these messages acted on their own. The street ads were allowed to speak, the billboards were given power, and the world around me was made to dictate the terms of beauty in passive waves that washed over my skin and my sense of self.

As the song unfolded, the experiences of internal conflict were filtered through satire and surreal imagery. The cream was applied, yet it was the mirror that negotiated my worth; the ghosts of colonialism were allowed to dance into the room without being invited. Everything that happened felt like it happened to me rather than by me, and that loss of agency was intentionally embedded into the narrative. Even the enzymes and mascots were written as if they rebelled on their own, forming a chaotic revolt in a beauty system that had long operated without my consent.

By the final chorus, a shift was embraced—still passive in structure, but different in spirit. An empowerment rose that felt as though it had been discovered rather than declared. The decision to reject the fairness myth was reached as if the truth had revealed itself slowly, settling into me with the weight of something ancient. My melanin was recognized as something cosmic, timeless, and unbought, and the ending was shaped to show that worth was being realized rather than forced. In this way, the song became a reclamation that gently but powerfully rewrote the script that had once been written for me.

Their activism is guided by deep commitments: justice without compromise, solidarity across borders, and an unshakeable belief that marginalised voices should be heard not with pity, but with respect.

These values spill directly into their music.
