Katastrophendemenz = Catastrophic Dementia

After the barrage comes the sweeping up. The debris is sorted, the names organised and listed, and the spokespeople say: it had to be this way. The choir nods: there really was no alternative. Many commissions have examined and confirmed this beforehand.

The maps are redrawn, the medals polished, the treaties signed.

We hang ‘Never again’ above shelves where the next helmets are already lying. When the guns fall silent, forgetting begins its work: the devastation, poverty, scars, lost dreams, traumas and hatred remain, while the questions have already been wiped away.

Next time it's defence, the time after that it's liberation, and the third time it's everyday life. So we practise forgetting and wallow in repetition until war remains and only the empty phrases change.

Perhaps we should read what happened before repeating what will happen. But catastrophic dementia is probably more diligent than memory.

It is an earlier version of the Song 'Leichtigkeitsmomente' from the Album 'Phantasmagorien'. And still in development.

Katastrophendemenz

Orchestral piece mostly using Strezov Sampling's String Contours 1 and 2.  Also, a requiem for my long time friend Marshall, who was always the most supportive friend anyone could ever ask for and whose goodness and will take with me for the rest of my days.

Tethered

A minimalist piano piece composed from a place of calm, resilience, and the quiet dreams that never fade.

“Still” is a delicate and introspective solo piano composition that invites the listener into a moment of stillness and emotional clarity. Written with a minimalist approach, it speaks softly — evoking quiet strength, reflection, and the enduring power of inner peace.

Blending cinematic sensitivity with neoclassical elegance, this piece is ideal for moments of contemplation, solitude, or quiet storytelling in visual media.

Composed and performed by Ángel Barat, award-winning Spanish composer and pianist.

Ángel Barat (1994) es un compositor y pianista español con proyección internacional, especializado en música para medios audiovisuales y repertorio de concierto contemporáneo. Su estilo combina sensibilidad narrativa, riqueza tímbrica y un enfoque cinematográfico que ha captado la atención de orquestas, festivales y cineastas de Europa, Norteamérica y Latinoamérica.

Formado en España y Estados Unidos, Ángel posee una sólida trayectoria académica y artística. Actualmente realiza un Máster en Composición Musical en Kent State University (Ohio, EE. UU.), tras haber completado estudios de posgrado en Composición para Medios Audiovisuales en el Centro Superior Katarina Gurska (Madrid) y un doble grado en Composición y Piano en el Conservatorio Superior Salvador Seguí (Castellón). También cuenta con un Máster en Formación del Profesorado por la Universidad CEU Cardenal Herrera.

Su trabajo ha sido premiado recientemente con el Premio RTVE a la Mejor Banda Sonora Original (2023) por el cortometraje Calle Dos y el Segundo Premio en el Cleveland 48 Hour Film Project (2024) por San Marzano Syndrome.

Ángel ha colaborado con destacados artistas como Eva Gancedo (Premio Goya), Zacarías M. de la Riva y Caco Refojo (ganador de 5 premios Grammy Lation). Su música ha sido interpretada por formaciones como la Orquesta de Cleveland, ProBandas Latinoamérica, así como diversas agrupaciones sinfónicas, ensembles y festivales internacionales.

Su experiencia profesional incluye roles como compositor para cine y medios, técnico de grabación en Kent State University, asistente de producción en el Blossom Music Center con la Orquesta de Cleveland, y profesor adjunto de Composición y Teoría Musical en Estados Unidos.
