As a farmer you learn that people aren’t so different. We are all in this dust to dust cycle and anyone willing to get soil under their fingernails with you is your brother or sister. We all just want to make a better life for ourselves. As a lifelong farmer I have shared life and work experiences with many immigrants. We all have something to learn from each other. Regardless of what country you come from or if you love country music or love rap. Always keep an open mind to get to know the person and not just the hashtags that follow them around.

The Grower is Digging Deeper behind the May 2025 cover story titled 'Wind’s up and the weather is rising for Canadian apple growers' and checking in with Chris. Representing 200 growers, Hedges says they are ready to meet the moment with consumers looking for locally-grown produce in the face of U.S. tariff threats. With favourable spring conditions, he’s looking forward to a “fantastic” crop.
