This is the first episode of an In Conversation Series conducted by Dr Sreenanti Banerjee. It includes a conversation with Ms Taniya Sultana Laskar. 

Taniya is from the northeastern state of Assam in India. She is a lawyer by profession, and her areas of legal activism include violence against women, especially domestic violence; property and land rights; and questions of inclusive citizenship in the state of Assam. She has recently co-founded an organisation called Sexuality & Gender Equality (SAGE). She is also a part of several human rights groups within India and writes regularly for different Bengali and English web portals on human rights issues.

Charlotte Shane joins Kate Wolf to speak about her latest book, An Honest Woman: A Memoir of Love and Sex Work. Detailing Shane’s many years as a sex worker, the book is also a candid examination of her own sexuality, as well as her deep fascination with the sex lives and interior worlds of men. Shane writes about the importance of her early “sexperimentation” with a group of close guy friends in high school; the nuances of her relationship to her father, her husband, and her clients—especially the almost decade long bond she shared with one of them named Roger.  She comes to sex work, and even heterosexuality, with both curiosity and empathy, as well as a feminist perspective. Her book focuses less on matters of harm and power than the intricacies of desire and the variety of intimacy possible between women and men.
Also, Sarah Manguso, author of Liars, returns to recommend Soldier Sailor by Claire Kilroy.

EP2 A Bunny's Tale

Dubravka Sekulić is an architect who researches the transformation of the built environment at the nexus between politics, law, and economy. She studied at the Faculty of Architecture in Belgrade. From 2003 she worked as a teaching assistant with Ivan Kucina on various programs (KTH-The Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden; Parsons-The New School for Design, New York; The University of Technology, Vienna). Later was a researcher at the Design Department of Jan van Eyck Academie, Maastricht. Afterwards she worked as a research fellow at the gta Institute for History and Theory of Architecture, ETH Zürich (2013-2016), and Assistant Professor at the IZK Institute for Contemporary Art, TU Graz (2016-2020). She received her PhD from gta Institute at ETH Zürich (2020) with the dissertation Constructing Non-alignment: The Construction Enterprise Energoprojekt 1961-1989. Today teaches at the Royal College of Art in London. In 2007 she collaborated with Platforma 9.81, a collective for architecture and media based in Zagreb, on the project New spatial strategy for the city of Zagreb. She was part of the Stadium Culture project that Srdjan Jovanovic Weiss and the NAO developed for the New Media Center_kuda.org. The research exhibition Three points of Support: Zoran Bojović, the architect that she curated at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Belgrade in 2012. In 2012 Jan van Eyck Academie (Maastricht) published her book Glotzt Nicht so Romantisch! On Extra-legal Space in Belgrade as well as the book Surfing the Black Yugoslav black cinema and its transgression that she co-edited. She created a digital Feminist library and engaged in the series of reading lists initiated by Ana Maria Leon, which started with SPACE/RACE. Together with Branko Belaćević, Marko Miletić, Srdjan Prodanović and Jelena Stefanović she made a research exhibition Peti Park - A Struggle for Everyday. With Ana Hušman she collaborated in a project Do not trace, Draw!. She was associated with the Post-Master Research Lab “In Search for Common Ground” at the Royal Institute of Art, Stockholm; Jan van Eyck Academy, Maastricht; and Akademie Schloss Solitude, Stuttgart (2008). She sits on the advisory board of BLOK, Zagreb and is a founding member of Parity Group at ETH Zürich.
