We start out show with W. C. Handy’s Orchestra from 1923, then hear from Sara Martin accompanied by Thomas ‘Fats’ Waller from 1922 and the Fletcher Henderson Orchestra from 1924. Fess Williams Royal Flush Orchestra next, followed by the Fletcher Henderson Orchestra, the Louisiana Rhythm Kings and Clarence Williams Washboard Five. A nice a cappella number from the Monarch Jazz Quartet is followed by Bennie Moten’s Kansas City Orchestra, Mills Blue Rhythm Band and Richard M. Jones Jazz Wizards. Into the early 1930s with Cab Calloway and His Cotton Club Orchestra, the Duke Ellington Orchestra, Fess Williams and His Royal Flush Orchestra and Andy Kirk and His Twelve Clouds of Joy. Cab Calloway and His Orchestra from later in the 1930s followed by Erskine Hawkins and His ‘Bama State Collegians, Slim Gaillard and His Flat Foot Floogee Boys and Teddy Wilson and His Orchestra. Some bop next with 3 selections from Bird with the Erroll Garner Trio (Best Charlie Parker recordings ever (?) with swingin’ piano from the underrated Mr. Garner) from 1947, the George Russell Sextet from 1961 featuring Don Ellis on trumpet and Dave Young on Tenor and ending the show with Cecil Taylor in trio format from the 1959 United Artists release ‘Love for Sale’.
