Watergate Records unveils its latest signing, as emerging Shanghai-based producer Final Request joins the label family.

The enigmatic artist broke through by winning a remix competition held by the Afterlife-signed KA:AST in 2020, before going on to impress with productions on Black Rose Recordings, Atlant and Oddity. Holding fans in high places, his music was championed by everyone from Solomun to Tale of Us and Adriatique, before quickly finding it soundtracking Tomorrowland and Awakenings, no less. Last year’s ‘Fallen Enemies’ EP on Diynamic earned an Essential New Tune on Pete Tong’s BBC Radio 1 show and he’s followed that up strongly with ‘Alter Ego’ and then ‘Unmasked’ in collaboration with Fur Coat, coming on Stil Vor Talent and Global 
Underground respectively.

Needless to say, his Watergate Records debut feels perfectly timed. Introduced to the club by Ruede Hagelstein, Final Request impressed recently during his club debut at Watergate playing alongside Agents of Time and JAMIIE.

‘By Your Side’ is made for big festival moments and built around a strong male vocal lead that highlights the track. A versatile composition that can work in a range of melodic techno, trance and prog scenarios. ‘The Lost Hawk’ is punchier and more dynamic, as full-bodied bass works in tandem with top-end chords to carry the emotion throughout. A stellar track!

The music I like to play is also popular with canines because my dog often runs to me, full of excitement, trying to "dance" along.  This is a recurring (and cute) phenomenon that occurs regardless of whether I'm mixing stuff on my Pioneer setup or working on Ableton Live via PC + monitors: he always wants to "dance".  

It's probably just his manipulative way of getting belly rubs from me, but I am positive that if he had opposable thumbs, he would be a killer DJ, and this would be his DJ set rather than mine.  This one's a bit more of a mixture of melodic techno, tech house, and bass house: in other words, I'm trying for the AETERNA / Experts Only / Maccabi House vibe that Meduza / John Summit / Adam Ten & Mita Gami are respectively cultivating of late.

Just remember: PLAY IT LOUD.
