The episode explains that marketing often relies on vague output metrics that are poorly linked to revenue and profit, creating a disconnect with finance, and argues that marketing must be managed as a strategic investment tied directly to firm value. It presents Dr. Denish Shah’s research showing how customer lifetime value (CLV), as a forward-looking measure of customer value, can be used to predict stock price and align marketing objectives with CEOs’ focus on increasing firm value.
