I wrote “Lullaby for a Sleeping Moon” pretty quickly. Although I have a hard time with it — I try to and trust my ear, and (not) to prejudge what I’m doing. I’m a fan of the iconic producer Rick Rubin, and I’ve heard a few quotes from him about letting your song evolve into something tangible, before denying it or hacking it to pieces. I really try to take heed of that — as my instinct is to self-edit along the way.

In the case of this song, I’ve always loved the line from (poet) Pablo Neruda:

“As if you were on fire from within.

The moon lives in the lining of your skin.”

I obsessed over that line as I wrote this piece. I kept thinking about the female form. What specifically came to mind; was the magnificence and femininity of a sleeping women’s wrist. From that patchwork, I came of with the title; Lullaby for a Sleeping Moon. I hope you like it!

"Life on Mars?" is a highly acclaimed song by the iconic David Bowie. It was originally released on his 1971 album Hunky Dory and later as a single in 1973. The lyrics are surreal and cinematic, depicting a young girl's escapist disillusionment with reality and media. Known for its soaring chorus, the song is often cited as one of Bowie's finest works.

When distilled to a single fingerstyle guitar arrangement -- the otherworldly musicianship of David Bowie is laid bare with brilliant melodies and clever chord progressions. I particularly like the way he snakes his way back into the verse from the chorus. It's mind-blowing.

David Bowie: Life on Mars? | fingerstyle guitar

My wife and I were in fertility treatments in late 2013 and most of 2014. There was a point (in the treatment) where we were driving out the facility every other day. At that time, Sweater Weather was the number one song on Alternative Nation (SiriusXM), we heard it almost every morning.

It was such a nerve-racking and anxious time for us. I remember be annoyed that this song was in constant rotation on Alt Nation. Nothing seemed to be working, and in July of 2014 we decided to take a break from the fertility treatments for 6 months; our doctor agreed.

We arrived home from our final appointment, and for some reason Jennifer decided to take one last pregnancy test. She was 2 weeks pregnant with our son Matthew. He’s now 10 years old :)

So…I now love Sweater Weather and this song is a constant reminder of (what turned out to be) the greatest moment of our lives.

My arrangement of this Cotswold Morris dance tune from the village of Sherborne in the county of Gloucestershire, England. Played on my Taran guitar in Open D tuning.

I wrote this for those believers who might be struggling in their faith.  It's an upbeat, encouraging song reminiscent of the styles of folk singers like Bob Dylan and Joan Baez

This could be my new song that you listen to, but since Soundcloud decided to hop on the AI bandwagon, all you hear is silence. 
Already in 2024 Soundcloud sneakily included in their TOS clear paragraphs that state that all content you upload here can be used to train their AI. This is unacceptable. Screw corporations that make artists lifes more difficult than they already are, make your voice heard. 
I have deleted all of my recent music and reduced my library here from almost 150 songs to around 85. It was always great to have this archive of my music since I started, but of course nothing can last forever. Sorry for all the comments and favorites that will be lost.

Within the critically acclaimed video game and HBO series The Last of Us, Gustavo Santaolalla’s “The Path (A New Beginning)” symbolizes hope, amidst a brutal world. Whether the song accompanies a hopeful glance across a ravaged landscape, or a moment of shared vulnerability — it’s a testament to Santaolalla’s masterful ability to evoke complex emotions with seemingly simple arrangements.

However, my personal preference from The Last of Us soundtracks are songs like: Unbroken, Longing, The Choice, and Allowed to be Happy. For my arrangement, I wanted to bring The Path down to a darker, more brooding tenor — more like the aforementioned songs.

The Last of Us: The Path (A New Beginning) | fingerstyle guitar

Music is my hobby, my passion, my therapist, my moderator, my point of focus, my escape - all rolled into one. I like everything from the Carpenters to Lamb of God, from the Deftones to Curtis Mayfield, from Joy Division to Bach, from Paco de Lucia to Mogwai.

I play fingerstyle acoustic guitar and produce electronic music.
My adventure with music started in my childhood, but recently I've been working on music quite a lot and more seriously.
My tunes are mostly inspired by nature.

I'm a guitarist from Tallahassee, Florida.  Doctorate in music composition from Florida State University, and worship leader at Grace Church of Tallahassee.

Ryan Judd is a Billboard Chart Topping recording artist and is an internationally known music therapist. His unique background as a music therapist and an accomplished fingerstyle guitarist allows him to bring music and well-being into harmony with each other. One of Ryan’s first experiences of the transformative power of music came when he was a young music therapy student going to see his grandmother for the last time. As he walked down the hall with his mom and brother by his side, everything felt cold, melancholy and sterile. The smell of disinfectant was in the air. Ryan entered his grandmother’s dark room and took out his guitar. The music he played broke through the isolation, sadness and fear. After the last notes faded, and tears welled in her eyes, she whispered, “That was good for my heart.” 

In addition to being inspired by healing experiences such as this and his work as a music therapist, Ryan is deeply influenced by guitarist Michael Hedges. When Ryan first saw Michael Hedges play, he was overwhelmed by emotion and knew that he had discovered something that would forever change the course of his life. Ryan has spent decades dedicating himself to mastering fingerstyle guitar and creating his own unique style as a performer and a composer.
