Narrated by ʿAʾishah (رضي الله عنها) who said: The Messenger of Allāh (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said: “Ten things are from the fiṭrah [natural disposition and inclination of man]: Cutting the moustache, allowing one’s beard to grow, using the siwāk [to clean one’s teeth], washing one’s nose with water, clipping one’s nails, cleaning the knuckles, plucking the hairs of the armpit, shaving off the pubic hair, and Istinjāʾ cleaning oneself [after answering the call of nature].” The narrator said: “I forgot the tenth one except that it may be ‘washing one’s mouth with water.’”

The Muslim Ummah is in a dire situation. We are plagued with major problems and many have sought to bring change and improve the condition of the Muslims. But what is the change we are seeking and how do we measure its success?

How To Measure Success-Leaving Lasting Change

The Islamic Society of Delaware (ISD), a Nonprofit Organization, was founded by visionaries of our community back in 1992. Its present campus located at 28 Salem Church Rd started as a standalone structure to accommodate few dozen worshipers. As the community grew leaps and bounds, the Phase 2 of the expansion plan was put to execution. In 2005, ground breaking was done to extend the structure to the new multi-purpose hall that now accommodates more than 500 worshipers along with mezzanine for female worshipers. Another milestone was added to the organization when a new building was constructed adjacent to the multi-purpose hall to accommodate a full time Islamic school with grades from Pre KG to middle school. The full time school, Islamic Academy of Delaware, moved to its present location in 2011.

In general the Muslim community in DE has grown multi-fold in the past few years - from a few dozen Muslim families in the late 90’s to few thousand families at present. As the community expands so does the need for more service oriented offerings at ISD. 

To date, ISD remains the largest Muslim organization in the Delaware Valley providing multi-dimensional services to the Muslim community. Its three main wings: Masjid Ibrahim, the Islamic Academy of Delaware (the first full time Islamic School in the state of Delaware) and the Quranic Academy of Delaware (with complete Hifz Program) cater to a large population of the Muslim community. Some additional services offered by ISD are:

🔹Educational Seminars (Religious/ Professional/Social)
🔹Community Events (Eid Bazar, Summer/Spring Fest)
🔹Environmental Projects (River Cleanup/Green Masjid)

This engagement with the community has resulted in higher quality and quantity of services provided by ISD.
