Los Bebos est un groupe français de musique connu pour son style éclectique mélangeant rock, musique latine et influences méditerranéennes. Formé dans les années 2020, le groupe s'est fait remarquer pour ses compositions entraînantes et son énergie sur scène. Leur musique, à la fois festive et émotive, séduit un large public grâce à ses rythmes entraînants et ses paroles colorées. Los Bebos a su se démarquer dans la scène musicale française avec un son unique et original. Leurs chansons originales traitent de l'actualité comme les ZFE mais ils composent également pour vulgariser des concepts comme la caverne de platon, une rencontre entre Mandeville et Smith ou Huxley et Orwell en passant par des hymnes à la côte de boeuf ou à l'apéro.

In this episode we take a trip to Fire Island (2022) directed by Andrew Ahn and starring Joel Kim Booster, Bowen Yang, Conrad Ricamora, James Scully, and Margaret Cho. Fire Island is a modern queer retelling of Jane Austen's classic, Pride & Prejudice, set during a chaotic trip to the infamous gay getaway. 

In this episode: Ashley details her love of P&P; cliques, racism, stratification in the gay community; Joel Kim Booster's cheekbones; making cheese in the hotub; what counts as high society in the IG thirst trap era.

Episode 119: Fire Island (2022)

A meeting between the Little Prince and Jonathan Livingston the seagull, between Aldous Huxley and George Orwell, between Bernard Mandeville and Adam Smith, or Archimedes and Newton, all while passing through an explanation of Plato's myth of the cave, kinesiology, the four Toltec agreements, Diogenes syndrome, and Pareto's law, not to mention a tribute to Michel Legrand, François Truffaut, Louis de Funes, Oscar Wilde, Winston Churchill, and Jacques Tati... all while passing through a hymn to prime rib, the recipe for cassoulet, sauerkraut, paella, veal blanquette, and the art of the aperitif.

This is our musical universe. From rap to country, reggae, jazz, blues, and so many others.

Each theme deserves a suitable musical style.

Let's not forget our nods to New York, Miami, Paris, Berlin, Hong Kong, Moscow, Barcelona, ​​Lisbon, London, kyiv, Tel Aviv, Dubai, Rio de Janeiro, Marrakech, Los Angeles and Beijing... each in the language of their country.

DJ Brian Norwood was born during the first seedlings of dance music as we know it today were sprouting. In the 1970s, the Tea Dance at Fire Island's Blue Whale was settling in as ritual and David Mancuso's infamous "The Loft" parties in NYC were just getting started.  Being born in the music-rich environment of Nashville would be a harbinger of things to come. And being born in that era would greatly impact his career. 

In the 90's, Philadelphia, the city of brotherly love, would open its arms to Brian. This move to a more urban environment and being within the twinkle of NYC skyscrapers, is an important transition not only in geography, but of musical awakening.  After attending a seminal Saint-At-Large Party with all its intendant revelry, he felt an overwhelming drive to cultivate music and learn to mix. Vinyl was still the preferred medium for DJ's, which gives Brian the unique perspective of being among the younger DJ's still spinning today who teethed on vinyl.

In the 90s Brian began to play live shows.  His ability to feel the energy of a room and to zero in on what crowds want to hear quickly gained him major name recognition that spread from Philadelphia to the entire nation.  Over the last 25 years the notable gigs he has played are too many to count, but include events in every major American city and as far away as Maui, Hawaii  and Amsterdam, Netherlands.  

In 2011 he began podcasting for the ability to reach even more listeners.  His Mixed Emotions by Brian Norwood podcasts have been streamed hundreds of thousands of times and continue to be a major asset to his musical career.  The sets that have been the most recognized of his work are Sophisticated Morning, Sophisticated Deep, and Sophisticated Chill.  These sets are just as their name implies: percolating, hazy, gently rising to an alert state. However, to those unfamiliar with his breadth of music, it would be unfair to characterize him as a “chill” only DJ.  It is unlikely that you would have heard music and music mixed like this anywhere else. Brian has a style of playing unique, obscure and ethereal songs that is unmistakably his.  This is a true artist that isn't stuck in a genre, who can play for long sets and play to the most demanding crowds. 

It’s difficult to express with words something as nuanced as music by a sublime DJ. But to paraphrase an old saying, you know it when you hear it. He knows how important a crowd is to a DJ and how important a DJ is to a crowd and he chooses cautiously and carefully the live gigs that he plays. DJ Joe D'Espinosa has had a passion for discovering and sharing music since a very early age. Even as a teenager he would bring his records and turntables to parties to play music for friends. His first residencies were in the gay nightclubs of Boston in the nineties. His style has evolved over the years as tastes have evolved, and he's had many different phases to his career including having been a regular at the Pavilion on Fire Island in its nineties heyday, The Saint at Large in New York, Magnitude and Real Bad in San Francisco and countless other major event weekends on the gay party circuit around the country. 

You can regularly catch Joe in Brooklyn at House of Yes, including their epic annual Halloween event, City of Gods. He still regularly spins in New York, on Fire Island and makes occasional guest appearances on SiriusXM's Studio 54 Friday night show. His style is crafted to elicit joy and community, merging disco grooves and funky house sounds for soulful, melodic and uplifting journeys on dancefloors and in podcasts.
