I'm not fully sure what this is. In total I put just over 9 hours into this project. Most of the work was done in the first five and the rest of the time was spent going back and forth on a bunch of changes. In total it was a little over a week from when I started it to when it was finished. I wanted to try to make a song without any piano since that's been my go-to instrument for songs so far, and the ideas just kind of flowed from that starting music box melody.

This starting melody transitions into the following synth section using a 3x Osc synth I made after messing around with the settings for 30 minutes. I like the way it has a pretty strong attack but still feels like a very soft-textured sound overall. The drums are just a lot of kick and hat samples layered on top of each other and I think they're probably the best sounding drums I've been able to make yet.

At the halfway mark, the sound transitions into a much deeper sounding section with the original music box melody sample being played in reverse in the background. I added a new music box melody on top of this and then remade the reversed melody in the 3x Osc synth and layered it behind to get this really interesting counter-melody in the background. I cut out all the high frequencies on the drums and reversed them too to get this really gutteral sounding atmosphere. Then for the next section I layered a Sakura synth and the FLEX "Synth voice" to really carry this melody to the climax of the song, with the regular drums fading back in over the low, reversed ones. I really like when the melody hits its peak at the second half of the phrase, there's something so musical about that section that really arose by pure chance when I reversed the original melody but it works so well as this climactic moment of the song.

Then for the outro I repeated the starting melody again and dragged down a low pass at the very end in combination with this slowed down crashing sample to get the outro sfx. Overall I think I learned a good amount of new production techniques from working on this song. I really like working on these small projects and learning more of the ins and outs of how I can work with sounds to make them into something cohesive like this.

I'm very hopeful that I'll be able to work on a lot of new songs over the summer and continue to get better at producing. Thank you all for listening!
