I started writing songs in my teens after learning how to play piano, cello, drums, and guitar. Being born and raised in Los Angeles greatly influenced my early years of music. My style of writing is very broad, primarily focused on lyrics in a variety of styles.  I turned professional in my 20s but then turned music into a sideline avocation.  I continued to write and perform in coffeehouses, even during my first academic job at Stanford University.  I now live and enjoy writing again in Santa Barbara, California.

Showcasing music produced by my little recording and production studio. We've recorded and released 2 CD's for my band, Cleaver Smith Swenson and McKnight, as well as 2 CD's for Bruce Emery & David McKnight. David passed away unexpectedly in 2017 from a brain tumor. So, this was in an effort to honor his memory, releasing some previously recorded material and a compilation of his works in his own album. It's a long time coming. But never too late.  Good music is timeless. Enjoy! ❤️
Cleaver Smith Swenson & McKnight:
Bill Cleaver, Robert Smith, and Joe Swenson got together in Chapel Hill North Carolina some years ago started play local clubs doing mostly acoustic covers of other people's songs. David McKnight soon came along and joined in on a gig in progress at 9th Street Bakery.  And he never left. His contributions to our music cannot be measured.  David played backup in may local Triangle Bands and also teamed up with the "Skeptical Guitarist" Bruce Emery when David would accompany Bruce who played guitar pieces at The Global Village in Raleigh NC. We recorded several tracks for Bruce, producing 2 CD's from this work, with many unfinished tracks waiting in the wings. Hopefully to be put up Here soon.

This work was inspired by unfinished business as our dear friend and bandmate David McKnight passed away unexpectedly from a brain tumor in 2017 leaving behind recordings he did as part of a 3rd CD yet to be released. This was a long time coming.
