"Will I be there when the crab crawls?"  

Another storytelling song from Interbay today, though what story it is telling remains rather vague.  

When I wrote the words for this track, I imagined a man despondantly and drunkenly falling asleep on the sand dunes near a coastal beach.  So sad that he wouldn't have cared if he'd been washed away by the sea--but instead he wakes up just before dawn, uncertain how he'd get through another day, knowing that it was highly likely that he'd end up on those dunes again sometime soon, if not that night.  

About how depression can linger without a clear path forward, where people wouldn't actively harm themselves because of their depression, but wouldn't try too hard to protect themselves from that harm.  

When it came time to cast a voice for this track, I switched out the man for a woman narrator.  I thought that perhaps a female voice would suggest more of a natural melody--which, when I add a speaking voice to words meant to be sung is always something I look for...  

I knew this song would be more about vibes than anything else--and I didn't want those vibes to be centered around misery.  One can be depressed and feel other things--it's just that the depression can color all other emotions in darker hues.  There's also an emptiness--as life with depression can feel less full and vibrant that a life lived without it.  

And this whole strange narrative tale came from a simple choice to write another song that had a title that started with the letter "X"--and there simply aren't that many words that start with X...  

I stumbled on the phrase "xeric dunes of Delaware" and had no idea what that could be referring to (having not spent much time in Delaware--just driving through it on a cross-continental comedy tour in 2009, really.)  

The word "xeric" (which seems to be pronounced both like Eric but with a zuh sound in front of it, or like earache, also with a zuh sound...I've heard it both ways and I laughed when the voice I picked managed to pronounce it each way...and that features in the track) simple means "an environment or habitat that is very warm and very dry".  I also found examples of people describing plants as xeric--meaning they can grow in difficult and dry conditions, potted simply in sand.  

What I didn't find was clear usage of the term I'd originally stumbled across.  There are certainly dunes near the beaches of Delaware and they can be described as xeric dunes.  But other than one mention, which seemed to suggest that it could be proper name for a specific area, as in (the) Xeric Dunes, I couldn't find the phrase "xeric dunes of Delaware" anywhere...so a lot of what I've written is fueled by creative license.  

For music, I've been in a synth pop mode lately...and that continued here.  Live acoustic drums...and synths (including a section that sounds vaguely carnival-esque--how does THAT fit in, thematically?  

No, I'm asking, how DOES that fit in, thematically?--because I have no clue.  

I did want to suggest something sandy, something verging on desert sounds...and I chose a small bluesy figure played on a resonator guitar.  Joining the synthpop with that guitar gives this track a flavor that I can only describe as...well...Interbay.

Hi! I am TBx, An EDM producer and pianist from India who is producing music for about 6 years now. Though I'm currently a college student, I aspire to do it full time.

Back in 2019, I discovered FL Studio through a QnA video featuring Alan Walker and started learning the software.
