THE REIVER AND THE GAEL.

An original folk song about the Border Reivers and their exile to Ulster
after the great "Pacification", carried out by King James the 6th of Scotland
and 1st of England. This proces lasted seven years, from 1603 - 1610.

The Border Reivers were exiled, displaced people brought to Ulster during THE PACIFICATION carried out by James the 6th of Scotland and 1st of England. This persecution lasted 7 years from 1603 to 1610.

The Reivers were essentially thieves and mercearies. They stole sheep and cattle and more besides. Murder, Vendettas, blackmail, to and fro across the borders.

They operated as clan gangs with names like Armstrong, Elliott and Graham. Smaller less powerful clan names were Scott, Irvine, Kerr, Kirwin, Maxwell, Robson, Charlton, Huddleston, Hall, Carruthers, Hetherington, Hall, Herron, Dodds.

LOOKING FOR YOUR LIGHTS

"Looking for Your Lights" tells a simple story. It began on the mandolin.
I've always had an ear for songs from the musical area of Americana with a touch of Cajan. I never realised that the French based Cajan sound comes from Nova Scotia, the area of Acadia which morphs into "Acadian" and then "Cajan".

Liam desribes his drumming as "Adam-Antine".

SEE YOU SEE ME.

"See you See Me" describes life in the now. Life seems chaotic and hectic
with aggressive politics and wars around the world. However we are moving
into a period of change with the Capricorn era ending in November 20th 2024
as Pluto moves into Aquarius until early 2044.

The last time things were like this was during the French Revolution
and the American War of Independence. Pluto has a long orbit lasting 298 years.

YAHEYA

"Yaheya" began as a song sung to a dead badger lying by the side of the road.

There is nothing out of the ordinary to honour an animal through song. On this particular day
I was on my way to a school storytelling session in Saintfield Library. It was a long time ago
maybe around 2007. I generally gave the song as a gift to the animal but, on this occasion
it didn't fade away, but came back to me in the afternoon, on my way home.

I still remember the sound of the rain on the roof of the car. I still have a simple recording 
of that moment. I used the steering wheel as a drum to beat out a rhythm.

I accepted that and I have used it ever since. This was my first opportunity to record it

If you had said to me in 2009 that I would become more involved in song writing and playing music live, I would have said "Catch yourself on . . ." But here I am, five years later, still at it, after a lay off of about thirty years or so.

I could almost be described as an unintentional musician. One thing just led to another . . .

I still work as an illustrator, poet and storyteller.

Can you call that work?

Good question . . .
