my mother has always played a game of tug of war, unbeknown to everyone but her children.

all these years, i've never known the rules, i keep pulling and pulling and straining my palms against the rope. i never win these. nor do my siblings.

they never told me how to play the game with mother, they've either given up or they've moved on to better things.

i have to move on to better things, but i would be a liar if i ever said i'd even considered it. i never will.

if i could understand a fraction of what my mother is, even if my palms calloused further and my nails bled from the rope, if it meant i'd lose time and time and time again, then so be it.

i'll pull harder.
