2021 - 2022 was a tough period for me, the emotional and psychological hardships continued into 2023 but in a more benign form. I have problems, I have my demons, y’know, regular teen - young adult things. After finishing “Originally Alone”, I wanted to take a break, because I don’t like forcing ideas to come out anyways, it just doesn’t feel fresh. 

Then one day, someone gifted me 2 guitars, I was so confused because I didn’t even think about learning how to play the instrument since I’m more of a “singer-songwriter - wordsmith - poet kid type” but I didn’t want the babies to sit in the dust, so, I decided to learn how to play in late 2021. I know I haven’t made much progress on building the guitar guitar-playing skills, but again, I think it fits my personality and purpose so well, my main focus is on the lyrics. I still want to practice and learn more though.

When I was planning on how I wanted the album to sound, I still loved the demo vibes of the first album but I still tried to polish it too much. People who follow me and my art might notice changes in my art style, it becomes rawer and “unfinished”. My art style became more unconventional which almost has no place in the mainstream of my art community, but I’m happier with it now. The messy strokes, the black and white, the ambiguity, the faces, and the stares, it’s what I see, it’s what I feel, it’s how I express myself, I’m imperfect, I have flaws, I messed up a lot but it’s still me. I lied to myself for far too long. I’ve always been the perfectionist type, mostly because of my unrealistic standards and because I’m so scared of how I’m perceived. But you know what?

Fuck it

I don’t have to always be perfect, I don’t need to do what I don’t want to do “just to be perceived as pristine”. The moment I saw beauty in those messy strokes and strums, I felt free, for the first time in my life. My art is something so personal, it helps me a lot, exploring and making peace with my inner-self, my core, my inner-child, and my shadow-self. We pretend all the time in social situations, no problem with that, but sometimes it’s so tiring, when I’m painting, writing, and singing what I wrote, I feel like I get to know myself better, no more lies.

I love noises and the ambiguity of old media so much, so I guess it manifested itself in my paintings in the form of the old painting-vintage photograph-nightmare-photocopy vibes, but at first, I was stuck, how will I convey the same mood and tones to my music without being too hard to hear? 

I ended up making sure the pedestal fan was on every time I recorded. I’m glad we can hear all of my mistakes and imperfections but at the same time, my emotions and feelings, I just think it’s beautiful.

I write poetry, lyrics, songs, contemporary music, improvise, and listen to music. Since 1998 I've been inspired by Amon Düül, Hawkwind, Gong, Syd Barrett, Velvet Underground, Kluster, Popol Vuh, Iron Butterfly, early Tangerine Dream, Chrome, Butthole Surfers, Eloy, Jane, Nirvana, Black Sabbath, MC5, The Stooges, Grateful Dead, Magma, Sun Ra, Blue Cheer, Jandek, Yuri Morozov, noise, jazz, electronic music, classical music, folk, and punk to create my own sound first on tape, later digital. I currently work at Via Kosmische, my home studio and creative space. I am currently interested in bass guitar, church organ, analog synthesizers, sound collage, vinyl, and Schlager Musik.

"Adam Majdecki-Janicki's discography is nothing short of impressive - recording under a number of aliases (A.J. Kaufmann, Die Rote Erde), during past 10 years he released almost 30 albums, ranging from ambient and New Age through folk to noisey krautrock. 'Bavarian Gypsy' is a collection of songs recorded over the years, mixing electronics with voice and acoustic instruments. The overall DIY quality, the live feel, the reverb and the way his voice is treated bring to mind Animal Collective or Ariel Pink, with nods towards folk outskirts of New Weird America. British and US psychedelia is also present, as both early Pink Floyd and Jefferson Airplane also seem to be an inspiration. From catchy ('Hero on the Wing') to mildly confusing ('English Nude'), 'Bavarian Gypsy' during its 28 minutes offers quite a lot of twists and turns, surprises and small wonders delivered with passion by a truly singular artist."
