Inner Torment

Composed for the soundtrack to my upcoming film, "They Come In Threes" is inspired by my late mother's offbeat and eclectic taste in music. This song is a poetic response to the pain of her loss the group decision by me and my siblings as to when to end life support. The lyrics, sung in three-part harmony, resemble the Ancient Greek fates, taking on a god-like demeanor while referencing my mom's folk/pop culture belief that "deaths (particularly of celebrities) come in threes." The second verse is more profound, continuing the embodiment of the three fates declaring, "Surrender now, we do not agree, it's our decision, and we've come in three," suggesting that with death there is no argument, but also indirectly highlights the conflict I had as one of three siblings who ultimately disagreed when tasked with this life or death decision.

Maxwell Harrison Ratzky is an American-born musician and composer best known for his extensive work with various bands throughout the U.S. and U.K. He's established himself as a sought after multi-instrumentalist, performing and recording with artists such as Halsey, EERA, Kitten, Psychic Love, Overjoy, Veronica Bianqui, and We Should Be Dead. As a composer he's written works for film, media, and the concert hall. 

Proficient in guitar, piano, bass, and percussion, Ratzky's style is often described as haunting and restrained; emphasising dark tones and colours. As a guitarist, he's known for using effects pedals to achieve unique sound worlds and for advocating a less is more approach.

A graduate of the prestigious Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA) in England, Ratzky also studied composition at London’s Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music & Dance with composers Soosan Lolavar, Deirdre Gribbin, and Dominic Murcott.

He splits his time between London and Los Angeles.
