It is the year 2023, and the label Fort Knox Recordings from Washington DC is currently celebrating its 20th anniversary - of course with a first class label compilation, which should not leave any armpit dry: "Another Decade of Fort Knox Recordings" contains 20 highlights from the labels second decade from 2013-2023.

For me, a welcome occasion to dish up a tribute mini-mix from this compilation + the terrific remix by The Allergies, of the Fort Knox Five anthem "Insight" (which has been released as a single).

DJ and radio host on Radio Z 95.8 Nuernberg/Germany (Radioshows “Limbo Rhythm” and “Headz”).

As DJ he has performed since 1992 in the Franconian surroundings, however, also in Berlin, Cologne, Munich, Portugal, Switzerland, Austria… Moreover he was booked for events such as the IFA International Radio Exhibition Berlin and the biggest European Youth Fair “YOU”, also in Berlin.
Dr.Best himself considers his roots in the Hip Hop Sound of the early 80’s to the mid 90’s, but he also dealt with other styles such as Funk, Soul, Acid Jazz, Trip Hop, Big Beat, House, Drum & Bass and Breakbeat. Over a couple of years he has been known in the German Clubscene as a Breakbeat-DJ, then in 2006, however, his style started to mutate… Styles such as Funk, Soul, Jazz, Hip Hop, Reggae, Latin, Afrobeat and Disco got mixed with his Breakbeat Sound and created a new mixture which cannot be easily tagged any more.
- But actually there is no need to tag it, is it? -

I'm a big fan of music generally, and also making connections with people through music. My collection has grown over the years and is still growing weekly! It contains a bit of everything, mostly influenced by breakbeat and drum and bass although more recently house and tech house. I was and still am a big fan of breaks, especially tracks from the likes of Freeland, Atomic Hooligan, Freq Nasty, Stanton Warriors, Plump DJs, Krafty Kuts etc but this list is definitely not exhaustive and I will listen to, and play anything within reason. Got to have an open mind! 

Things are a little quieter these days but I've spent many weekends lost in a field/club/house party somewhere!

It's no secret that the original feeling of hip hop, with its party grooves, b-boys, and breakers, was successfully transmitted from the Bronx to Europe long ago. A healthy number of European groups and artists adopted hip hop poses, translating the beats and attitude for their audiences. Expressive twists and turns on a traditional sound vibrate even today, leading the way for DJs and producers to explore the genre with impressive, dance floor-worthy results. Germany's funky breakbeat duo CMC&Silenta are a shining example, crafting tunes that draw inspiration from hip hop as well as their country's electronic music legacy.

I'm a founding member of Monkey Tennis Group with 3 other DJs and  'the creator'.

Soundcloud kicked me off here in 2010 for some mashups...  I'm now repopulating, when I have time...  of 30 years worth of work.  
If I'm posting it at this point, I don't feel as if it's trash.  


You don't need a demo when you have a job, so I didn't start making 'tapes' until 1997.  I've been making them regularly since then, if that tells you anything.  We are lways chasing something...

I actually started out as a paid apprentice or understudy, in clubs working for a 'service company' that supplied club entertainment, etc., and with them I studied human nature 4-5 nights per week.   

The service company had a studio, and one of the things they produced there were cheerleader mixes, some custom, some for sale at these big cheerleader competitions like CANAM where the mother company had the contract.  After 43 or 47 or however many it was that I worked out for them where they reproduced 1k at a time, the only one of those tapes I got away with and still have, I had to buy for $20 just like everybody else.  

I got more than my share of that commercial mix business, but the immersion taught me how to program and about workflow and how to tell a story in 1500 words or less.  They also had a mobile DJ wing but I wasn't part of that, except for setting up for others on any given afternoon, then report to the club at 8...  

In 97 I had topped out, meaning there were no bigger or better clubs to work my way into, and then the club I was working in at the time was about to be rezoned, so the owners decided to break up their venture together.  The writing was on the wall...  

With the no-competition clause in my contract, I couldn't work anywhere as a DJ within 250 miles(couldn't compete) against the service company because...  they were legally smart like that.  Their parent company had contracts for A/V or whatever, from Maine to Miami...  

So I moved back 'home' where none of this exists so to speak, and became a "rave DJ"...  and started throwing parties in mid-97.  Still working...  just not getting paid.  If I didn't love it, I wouldn't do it, so there....  

This page represents that life choice.  This is my art.  I try to represent the best music I can find that I somehow connect with and present those tracks in their best light, and that's my challenge.  I'm not a slave to genre.  I do like some things more than others, but others do too and I try to be sensitive to whichever audience I think that might be, and I lost a lot of followers in 2010 so I'm not sure what that means anymore except that I have a lot of work to do, which is how I like it anyway...

I experienced my first contact with Electronic music through a Happy-Hardcore-CD of my brother, which I came across by accident. I was fascinated by the speed and intensity of that genre. Through Sven Väth's "L'Esperanza" I got introducted to Trance and via Richie Hawtin's Remix of System 7's "Alpha Wave" to Techno. 1996 I had my early Club-/Rave experiences, which induced me to buy my first records. I started playing at private parties, till I eventually had my premiere rave gig in 1997. Together with my brother I'm also deejaying b2b (Da Brothers gonna work it out / Daniele d'Agnelli vs. Dyrtsta).

I always try not to submit myself to any stylistic boundaries. The audience always decides where the journey goes to.
