About Dave:

Originating from Sheffield, UK, Dave Lazenby has been passionate about music since childhood, once known as the kid sharing mix tapes with everyone around him. Influenced by iconic clubs like Gatecrasher and Back to Basics, he developed a deep connection to house and progressive sounds. After a long hiatus, he returned to the decks during lockdown and hasn’t looked back, playing across the UK alongside names like Dave Seaman, Quivver, and Steve Parry, and even in Ibiza at Es Paradis and Ibiza Rocks Bar. In 2022, he co-founded Another Life, Sheffield’s progressive house night, hosting artists such as Anthony Pappa, Danny Howells, and Aubrey Fry. As a producer, his releases with Jon Towell include The Face and Underground, with Steelyard coming soon. His sets range from deep, hypnotic warmups to dark, driving closers that capture the true energy of the night.

In 2006, when the borders of progressive house were starting to blur and music started melting into the digital sphere, Balance 010 arrived with almost monastic ambition. A three-disc journey mixed by Jimmy Van M, the release cut against the pace of its moment: patient, structured, emotionally articulate, and stubbornly uninterested in chasing trends. It didn’t shout for attention. It didn’t try to out-shine the giants of the series. Instead, it built something more durable, a slow-burn statement that critics recognised as one of the era’s most meticulous experiments in long-form storytelling.

Flying the flag for ‘quality independent electronic music’, born and bred on a national and global scale in their homebase of Australia and beyond, Balance Music have been at the very forefront of underground house music since its inception, expertly guided by experienced director Tom Pandzic. Their revered Balance Mix Series (Established in 2000) has seen the likes of Max Cooper, James Zabiela, Kolsch, Hernan Cattaneo, Henry Saiz, Danny Tenaglia, Deetron, Joris Voorn, Patrice Baumel, James Holden, Agoria, Phil K (R.I.P.), and more step up to the plate for one of the most essential collections across the entirety of the electronica spectrum, whilst Balance Series, their showcase for expressive tech, progressive and wider variations of house music, is a focal point of the sound. The latter has nurtured top-drawer releases from quality artists encompassing a plethora of upcoming and established acts. I started going to clubs in the early 90s, right around the time when electronic music hit the clubs. The countless events of the early 90s and the completely new music style and the atmosphere of smoky caves were something completely new. At that time, vinyls and CDs were listened and bought to in record stores. The most famous of which in Finland was Street Beat run by DJ Joke (RIP). Jokke was also an amazing DJ and is considered the father of Finnish techno culture.

Certain radio programs were another way to discover new artists and music. Perhaps the most influential of these for me was Beatbox run by Aki Matilainen of Radio CITY. DJ Orkidea's first radio mix was also recorded here (which I still have on Beatbox's C-cassette number 18). At that time, almost all the money was wasted on record stores and luckily I have saved those records to this day. Elektronic music is still a big part of my life every day and I thought it would be great to bring out those old songs. Especially the ones that you don't usually hear on every mix. Inspired by this, I started making my own mixes and bringing out the songs that many younger people may never have heard before.

I personally like more melodic trance and my biggest favorites over the years have been:

From the labels Eye Q, Harthouse, Limbo, Perfecto, Platipus, Rising High and Superstition.

From the artists BT, Grace, Oliver Lieb, Jan Johnston, Matt Darey, Paul Oakenfold, The Space Brothers, Way Out West and definitely of course Scooter!

Most memorable events that I have experienced in club scene is in the early 90s, DJ Kid Paul live at Botta in Helsinki. Grace perfoming live (in 95 or 96) on the Big Bang (not 100% sure about this name) cruise from Helsinki to Stockholm. Last year was the first Luminosity Beach, where I finally saw The Space Brothers and Matt Darey live, amazing!

Getafixx is Justin King, now living in Berlin, Germany, but London is his home.

Getafixx mixes a range of beautiful and blissful electronica, IDM and ambient tracks with a sprinkling of voice/film/folly samples that add to the emotional roller-coaster of the aural mix. Taking inspiration from the Future Sound of London’s radio broadcasts, as well as from the philosophy of sampling anything if it sounds right, Getafixx creates music mixes that are far more than just mixes, they have to be listened to not just heard, they provoke thought as well as soothe the soul.
